Anthology - Four Tops (The)

Advantages: Best of the Beasties
Disadvantages: none

...The Anthology says a load about a band/singer. It shows there live, all of there lives works compressed on to two CD's. It also generally signals and end to a band/singer's releasing new work (such as singles and albums). This is why it should be extreamly good. The good news is that the Beastie Boys did not disappoint with 'The Sounds of Science'. This is a top-notch album, I loved it and still do. I bought this as soon as it came out (as I am a huge Beastie fan) and I am still listening to it now, a year later. If you like the Beastie Boys then this is a must have since it does have allt here best hits on two CDs. Also if you are new to the Beasties then this is also a very good album to start with as it is the very best of there work.... Read review

Advantages: A new facet of rock's greatest
Disadvantages: Not for the casual fan

...Anthology 1 documented the backroom saga of the Beatles' career to the end of 1964. Part 2, to quote their publicist Derek Taylor, documented 'the years of dash and daring', which began with "Ticket To Ride" in 1965 and culminated in the psychedelic madness that was 1967. The vast majority of these songs are alternate takes, demos and rehearsal recordings of songs which they released at the time, like a hilarious version of "And Your Bird Can Sing" which ends in hysterical laughter (what else was in the studio at the time, one may ask), and instrumental takes of "Eleanor Rigby" and "Within You Without You". The few new songs to be found include "That Means A Lot", which they wrote and recorded at the "Help!" sessions and rejected and gave to P.J. Proby, who covered it and enjoyed a Top 30 hit as a result, and another reject from... Read review

Advantages: The Beatles Remixed sounds better than ever!
Disadvantages: Only 1 song with new material

...The Beatles are back with this great new CD of remixes. Famous songs such as the experimental "within you without you" and "tomorrow never knows" are merged to create an innovative sound, almost 40 years after their composition. The John Lennon written, "Strawbery fields forever" sounds fantastic blended with Harrison's "Piggies" and primarily McCartney compositions "Penny Lane", "Hello, Goodbye" and "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". George Martin has beautifully crafted existing songs together to create what feels like a whole new experience and way of looking at the mop top quartet. The only new addition is a string accompaniment to "While my guitar gently weeps" which is the acoustic anthology version. However, the Beatle's music feels as fresh and intuitive as ever and comes highly recommended to fans and newcomers alike.... Read review
