...Returnto the Frontline ~
I brought this DVD after watching the first series from Ross Kemp last year.
I have always shared an interest in these war documentaries and this series interested me not just because of the actor Ross but also of the reality of the Afghanistan War we are currently fighting. This series is a five part documentary which was aired on Sky One and shows Ross Kemp staying and following the action of modern warfare by British Soldiers. In the two series he and a small film crew take part in operations and follow the soldiers into the frontline with the Taliban. The series is very addictive and when I had received the series on DVD from Play.com I watched the whole thing in two nights. I think it is a great way of showing civilians what our soldier go through in the most dangerous war at current time. It...

Advantages: Childhood memories, fantastic film, there's a moosehead! Disadvantages: Very scary for 4 year olds!
...These days I don't normally write reviews on products which already have good reviews written on them. However, having watched this film last night I suddenly have the urge to write, as this film brings back memories for me.

I turn to face him, because he's crying and because I'm also scared I'm crying too. His poor mum doesn't know what to do...

Advantages: A moderately interesting premise. Disadvantages: Badly directed, lazily acted and shoddily written without sufficient scares.
...for the part of Joanna?s best friend from school and is never given a chance to be anything other than bland and sensible.
The original score by horror maestro Dario Marianelli is standard fare for this kind of movie. He marries background whispering with creepy wine glass squeals to try to set your nerves on edge. Then he backs them up with foreboding string and piano motifs or rising string and high-pitched brass arrangements that foreshadow events. However, he shoots himself in the foot with his repetitive piano refrain that is remade with added strings or woodwinds at various times through the film. It?s fine the first time you hear it but becomes wearing after the third. He would have been better off if he?d used more sawing folk fiddle and plaintive piano breaks as he does at the end of the movie.
?The Return? is a turgid pot...
