Additional notes

Album Notes: ANTITHESIS, the latest album from death metal all-stars Origin is a thick, black storm of fetid tomb air. Seemingly possessed guitarists Paul Ryan and Jeremy Turner have turned their instruments into turbo drills, as the duo grinds out rhythms and mini solos with blinding speed and accuracy. The drums thud along with pinpoint precision and the bass rumbles underfoot like a massive, burrowing sandworm. The song titles speak to both halves of the band's collective brain; "Algorithm" speaks to their head-spinning instrumental mastery, while "The Appalling" and "Consuming Misery" describe their hair-raising viciousness. Origin's origin can't possibly be this planet.

Album Reviews: Kerrang (Magazine) (p.49) - "[T]he blistering intensity demands your attention from violent start to battered finish. Best here is the jaw dropping title-track..."

Fantastic
Review of Bends, The - Radiohead by northers

Advantages: Lyrics, sounds
Disadvantages:

...This is a classic album. Following on from the mediocre 'Pablo honey', 'The Bends' represents a massive change in direction for Radiohead. Gone are the jangly, upbeat guitars of previous, to be replaced by a moody, brooding sound that is bordering on the suicidal. You just have to look at the cover of this album to discover the antithesis that this album represents: is the person showing pain or pleasure; there is definitely a certain Mona Lisa-esque grimace. Pain or pleasure? I am not sure if the band themselves know, but what we have been given is a real gem, from the beautiful 'High and dry' through to the downbeat 'Street spirit'.... Read review

Dark roots
Review of Blondie´s Hits - Blondie by dave27

Advantages: The face, the cheekbones, the choons
Disadvantages: None

..."Here she comes now - ah, you know her, would you look at that hair, yeah, you know her, check out those shoes, she looks like she stepped out of the middle of somebody's blues, she looks like the Sunday comics, she thinks she's Brenda Star, her nose job is real atomic, all she needs is an old knife scar, she's so dull (come on) rip her to shreds..." (Rip Her To Shreds) Now you're talking pop pickers, the biz, the real stuff, the essence of pop and every young boy's original wet dream ... it's Debbie Harry and Blondie and can you ever hope to get anything finer, "Well, did you evah!" It was sad and very, very empty to see the Blonde One and her 'boys' reappear not so long ago with that hollow revival number which stormed to the very top of the charts, daubing her wrinkles so depressingly all over the TV screen, oh how we wept, because... Ziggy takes the train
Review of Station To Station [Remastered] - David Bowie by Mauri

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...David Bowie has always been the original chameleon or rock/pop. From his early days as a teenage mime performer and early conceptual artist, he when through a number of pop personas, Major Tom, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane until in 1975 he became the ‘Thin White Duke’ and in 1976 adopting this persona ‘Station to Station’ was released. It is thought by many to be his best album to date. This was an intensely productive period for Bowie in the same year as making this record he had also starred in Nicholas Roeg's critically acclaimed cult classic ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’, playing a stranded alien. Possibly due to his affection for cocaine over recent years, which had begun to affect all aspects of his life, Bowie had lost weight and always appeared in public looking very pale, an almost cadaverous like figure. He tended to spout... Read review
