Advantages: A tense, suspense filled drama Disadvantages: None
As far as space films go, I am not a big fan so it was with some trepidation that I took this one in. After a few minutes, it is clear that this is going to stand head and shoulders above the rest which is due, in large part, to the immense performance of Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks, but also to a tremendous true story of bravery, skill and hope.
A year after the epic moon landing of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 13 was scheduled for a moon landing of its own. The original crew of Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Fred Haise (Bill Paxton) and Ken Mattingley (Gary Sinise) are just days away from the launch when Mattingley is pulled from the team due to the belief that he may have been exposed to infection.
Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) steps inand after a routine launch, disaster strikes, leading to the immortal line "Houston, we ...
Advantages: Pretty far out stuff, I ain't never heard anything like it before Disadvantages: Hard to get into, will need to see live to get full experience
, ?Superhero Music? came out some time later. They?re with the Manchester-based Grand Central record label and they?re a two-man band consisting of DJ Peter Parker (who some of you may know if you?re Mancunian and keep your ear to the Manchester music circuit) and Sneaky who is known by a more sensible and real name but for the life of me I can?t quite remember. And what a stonking two hours it was.
In hindsight its probably easier to appreciate Fingathing if you?ve seen them live like I have. Its not just the music, but in a similar manner to bands like Bjork or Goldfrapp, but they put on a great visual show as well. Peter Parker has under his control a scratching deck ...
Advantages: Range, Speed, Fun Disadvantages: No safety cut out, heavy on land
I rode the Apollo AV1 this weekend when I hired one from a local dive school here in Lanzarote.
I use the word "rode" deliberately because it was fitted with the optional "saddle."
What a fantastic experience! You actually sit down on the scooter, so that it is between your legs. There is then a pull lever with six positions on it to control the speed. Leaving it on speed one is basically and idle with the prop just turning, but maximum is awesome, flying through the water at around 3 knots.
You literally "fly", controlling turns, ascents and descents by adjusting your fins like an aircraft - it's even possible to loop the loop!
Battery life is excellent at 80 minutes on a full charge, and the maximum depth rating is 50 meters.
The unit is heavy to haul around on land, but is just right in the water, being slightly negatively ...
