Advantages: Truly beautiful music Disadvantages: Not good for a rainy day
I purchased Aqualung's debut album solely on the strength of 'Strange & Beautiful' after it was used on the VW Beetle ads. Having done so I was not disappointed with the rest of the album.
This album has on it some of the most lyrical and truly beautiful music I have ever heard, but it does come with a health warning. This is certainly not music to cheer yourself up with, but rather more appropriate for when you are feeling more reflective ... ...and lilting lyrics on 'Strange & Beautiful', 'Gentle' and 'If I Fall' are the music world's equivalent of a warm cup of hot chocolate, and are complemented well by Matt Hale's hauntingly vulnerable voice.
Nearer the end of the album, some of the tracks start to blend in to one another, with 'Nowhere' and 'Halfway to the Bottom' not really making any kind of impact on me, but still worth hanging on to the end for.

This album has on it some of the most lyrical and truly beautiful music I have ever heard, but it does come with a health warning. This is certainly not music to cheer yourself up with, but rather more appropriate for when you are feeling more reflective (or if you're hungover).
The gentle piano and lilting lyrics on 'Strange & Beautiful', 'Gentle' and 'If I Fall' are the music world's equivalent of a warm cup of hot chocolate, and are complemented well by Matt Hale's hauntingly vulnerable voice.

I find the album art fascinating, a simple pencil sketch, but significant once you've heard the album - the subject seems lost and fragile as the songs suggest.
I think this would be a recommended buy for those who want to have something to chill out to and something to listen to while reading or something like that. Certainly this is not a CD to take to the gym or try to cheer yourself up with!
It also seems that this title has dropped in price in recent months, so at the moment it is well worth the money.
Advantages: An uplifting album full of relaxing songs and strong lyrics Disadvantages: Some songs seem similar to others
...other album has. The name aqualung was taken from a Jethro Tull album, but it is particularly suitable, it describes the album, as the album certainly contains an underwater quality. By listening to the brilliant lyrics of songs, such as, "Brighter than Sunshine," you can see how the song had so much airplay in the top 40 in the USA. Matt does most of the music by himself, producing the piano, beats and hauting vocals. He does, however, get some ... ...Oliver. When you hear the songs, they will echo round your head for weeks. After hearing the album i couldnt help whistling them to myself frequently. If you havent heard any of Aqualungs previous material. I would say it is similar to Elliott Smith. The spidery, haunting vocals are similar. I would strongly recommend purchasing this album as it is perfect to relax or even as background music. Also, the price shown is extremely good value for money. ...

Advantages: Agressive lyrics, food for thought Disadvantages: The audio quality
Initially I got hold of a vinyl of this album and during the upgrade period it was the third album to be added to my CD collections and I?m very proud to own it.
Named after 18th century agriculturist, Jethro Tull came into existence in 1967 led by Ian Anderson. Basically from Blackpool & Luton, Great Britain. With typical flute work of Ian Anderson, they made the cross lead of guitar and flute their forte. Guitarist Martin Barre became a part of Jethro Tull in 1969. Other members are David Goodier, John Ohara and Doane Parry. Drummer Bunker left the group after ?Aqualung? was released. However their first foray ?Sunshine Day? into the international scene was massive fiasco. But in 1971 Jethro Tull?s best ever work ?Aqualung? was released but Ian Andersson?s lyrics became quite controversial because of his unadulterated statement ...
Advantages: Great mixture of songs, represents ?The O.C? but in a totally different way to mix 1, there?s a really cute picture of Seth on the cover :D Disadvantages: Songs, which possibly weren?t that memorable, made the cut as apposed to songs, which stuck with the viewer, such as Jeff Buckley, Rooney and Aqualung.
in the first series, and both moments were memorable. It wasn?t just background music either, the song stood out. I guess next to ?California? (the theme tune) by Phantom Planet ?Hallelujah? is next in line as a song associated to ?The O.C?. That?s why I was confident that song would make this soundtrack but it didn?t. Some of the songs chosen weren?t even that memorable, great tracks, but if you?re not a hardcore O.C fan, then you won?t even remember them. I?m still impressed with the soundtrack as somehow I adore every song on this album, but still disappointed ?Hallelujah? isn?t on here. Oh and don?t even get me started on Aqualung?s ?Strange and beautiful??
For some reason at first I found this album quite hard to get into, mainly because at the time of release a lot of the songs hadn?t even featured on the show (some are featured ...
Advantages: Pure Brillance Disadvantages: More of the same
This is the follow up to Aqualung's self titled first album.
It is more of the same brillance - if you liked the first album then i strongly recommend getting this follow up.
I would to a degree put Aqualung in the group of bands as Coldplay. Although slightly sadder.
I find myself often hooked on listening to the meaning of Aqualung's lyrics as they are quite thought provoking and seemingly personal to the writer of the song.
This album isn't going to cheer you after a bad day, but the album is definitely a keeper in my CD collection.
The stand out tracks in my opinion are the "Left Behind" and "Breaking my heart again" I do not believe there is a weak track however my least favourite in the last track on the album
You should be able to pick this album up for under a tenner as it has been out for a couple of years ...
