This was Tulls first multi platinum album and saw the introduction of Ian Andersons friend Jeffrey Hammond on Bass. This is a very though provoking album with the surreal “Mother Goose” and acoustic whimsies like “Cheap Day Return” and “Nursie” to the religious commentaries of “My God” the album combined Ian Andersons most adventurous lyrics with some of his most enduring tunes. The title track and “Locomotive Breath” have been played at concerts since while most of the other tracks have been used on tour sometime or other over the years. Many of the songs have a religious commentary in them.

Yeah ... maybe the ultimate and most popular Tull record. But because of its mass-appeal it is not my favourite record. I am not quite sure but I think about "Heavy Horses" "Thick as a brick" or (in newer times) "Christmas Album". There are a couple of great songs, I personally prefer the acoustic tracks like "Mother Goose". "My god" owns a frantic flute-solo. But Aqualung itself seems to copy a bit the heavy-rock Guitar of Black Sabbath, hip in this year with their fabulous "Paranoid"-album. But what a great collection of bonus-tracks, especially "Lick your fingers clean", I ignore a bit the lyrics as it seems copied of old books like the critical thoughts about religions of Feuerbach. But the music is great ... Tomas
