Her strong, pure tones conclude this collection, which begins with the present and then works chronologically backwards. We get a plethora of singers backed by furious electro effects, but what strikes you is the way their voices remain quintessentially Arabic. That dusky, lazy tone, which so often lingers microtonally below the note, seems impervious to extraneous influences. As we go back in time, the accompaniments become simpler and more engaging: massed strings in unison, plus an accordion or a lute or a zither. My favourites are Nagat Al Saghira, who was a child-star of Egyptian cinema in the 1940s, and the great Lebanese singer Fairouz. Nobody has ever successfully replicated her deep, dark timbre and it seems doubtful that anyone ever will.--Michael Church

Loose Women
Loose Women is a daytime TV programme which is shown 5 days a week on ITV, from 12 (midday) to 1pm. The show is on Monday to Friday, just after This Morning.
The show is aimed mainly at women, who may be unemployed and with a young family, people who are home during the day, so the age range which they cover is from young students right up to old age pensioners, and everyone in between.
Although the show is aimed at women, there are men who follow the programme, and who go to the studio to watch the show been filmed and aired.
The show is live everyday, so you are sure some laughs!

are either Andrea McLean or Kate Thornton with various different women making up the panel such as Coleen Nolan, Denise Welch and Lynda Bellingham to name but a few. The women span a variety of different ages, I assume to give the show a balanced view from different age groups
The topical issues in my opinion are straight out of The Sun, or in that same ilk, who is sleeping with who, it's definitely not hard hitting journalism which is a shame as I do think there is a gap in the market for an intelligent show that stay at home mums, unemployed people can watch without feeling like their brain cells are hardly being tested at all!! I have to say that I think all these women give intelligent women a bad name, all they talk about is sex, men, and moan about their men and just seem desperate to me.

Advantages: Funny , Light , Interesting Disadvantages: Some Stuff Already Seen On The Show!
discuss everyday topics that affect women as well as interviewing celebrities! The main presenters on the show are Coleen Nolan (member of the pop band , The Nolans) , Jane McDonald (famous singer) and Carol McGiffin (Chris Evan's ex-wife), although there are a few regular ones who appear on the show such as Denise Welch and Lynda Bellingham. There are certainly a lot of laughs to be had whilst watching this show.
When I heard that the Loose Women had a book out called Girls Night In ( I actually first heard about this book when Amy69 wrote a review about it), I just had to buy it! The book cost me £9.99 from play.com. The cover consists of eight members of the team : Coleen Nolan , Carol McGiffin, Jane McDonald , Denise Welch (played barmaid Natalie in Coronation Street), Sherrie Hewson (Maureen from Coronation Street) , Jackie Brambles ...
