Advantages: amazing piano improvisation Disadvantages: not for people who don't appreciate improvisation
One of the most respected pianists of our time, KeithJarrett, gives with the "Koln concert" a good definition of what improvisation is. Innovation, creativity, the feeling of uncertainty. KeithJarrett is the kind of pianist that emerged during the 60's deeply influenced by Bill Evans and got mixed up with all sorts of jazz styles: fusion, bop, funk, avant garde and even classical music. In this recording you can find all his musical influences, concentrated in an improvisational way, unfolding in front of your eyes, or maybe ears. The result is quite amazing, if you think that KeithJarrett wnated to actually cancel this concert because the piano that he was provided with, was not of top quality. For people who love piano and moreover improvisation in general, this is certainly a priority choice. ...
Advantages: very interesting, funny life. Disadvantages: uncertainty behind some parts
Having been a huge Who fan for a few years, I was excited to read this biography. Once read I was not disappointed. Moments of out loud laughter combined with intrigue and sadness. The author (Tony Fletcher) attempts to be impartial, attempting to separate the myth from the legend, which is no easy task with a character at extreme characters in modern times. Even his birth date is uncertain. The book describes key moments and some very very funny stories based on Fletchers research. Keith Moon is probably one of the most interesting people to live, given the money and fame to fulfil his lifestyle of excess. Excess being the key word in Keith's life, where everything including drink, drugs and jokes was over the top. Many famous friends of Keith participated in the book, giving frank and detailed interviews. Exceptions to those ...

Album Notes
Personnel: Keith Jarrett (piano); Martin Gutesha (conductor); Jan Garbarek (soprano & tenor saxophones); Charlie Haden (bass); Stuttgart Radio Symphony. Recorded at Studio Bauer, Ludwigsburg, Germany in October 1975. ARBOUR ZENA offers three Keith Jarrett compositions for orchestra, piano, bass, and saxophones. Jarrett had earlier shown his interest in contemporary classical composition, first with the ambitious IN THE LIGHT and then with LUMINESCENCE, the latter featuring strings rather than piano, laced with Jan Garbarek's saxophone improvisations. The string section here is drawn from the ranks of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. The scoring is subtle, with an emotive shimmering quality--after an extended piano break by Jarrett on "Runes," the strings emerge seemingly out of the piano itself. The meditative mood is sustained throughout the set. Charlie Haden's rich bass tone offers a nice contrast to Garbarek's crystalline timbre.
