Album Notes: On their fifth studio album (their first since guitarist Dino Cazeres' departure) bassist Christian Olde Wolbers takes over on guitar with Strapping Young Lad member Byron Stroud taking bass. 'Archetype' the follow up to 2001's 'Digimortal' sees a return to Fear Factory's earlier more instrument heavy sound. Whilst the electronic influence has been reduced, bass drum and guitars have been brought to the forefront to produce a rawer sounding effort than more recent works. This special edition contains a DVD with bonus documentaries

Advantages: Fear Factory try something a little different Disadvantages: Poor production quality in places, vocals often feel strained
.... 'Transgression' is a very hard album to get into, even for a die-hard fan. Each successive listen reveals more and more that 'FearFactory' are trying something different and it is nice to hear them attempt this, It is a shame that the final result is shakey in places. This is the reason why I can't recomend this album to newcomers, it doesn't represent 'FearFactory' at their best (Production Quality), nor does it show what they are capable of. 'Demanufacture', 'Archetype' and 'Digimortal' are better places to start, representing 'FearFactory's' sound properly!
The DVD is another Joke, the three so called promo music videos are shocking! 'Moment Of Impact' is one of those that makes you think 'what on earth does this guy think he looks like'. The making of the album featurette made me yawn, it takes ages to get anywhere with its endless barrage...

Advantages: Better than any other Fear Factory album. Disadvantages: Bit too heavy for mainstream people.
...What a true return to form - FearFactory have kicked aside their inferior nu-metal sound on Digimortal and risen back as the true kings of Industrial Hardcore! The departure of Dino was in fact a blessing - FearFactory have NEVER sounded so good. The band temporarily broke up prior to the creation of this album, but it is a miracle that they came back together, as the metal world would have been deprived of this masterpiece. There is no doubt that this album will contribute to future hearing difficulties for the listener - but that is to be expected if you want to really appreciate Metal.
My favourite song on the album has to be Corporate Cloning - never before have FearFactory made such a catchy melody on such a heavy song. It was trapped in my head for days (and was ringing in my ears for weeks - ha). Cyberwaste is the most...
