Used To Be a Sweet Boy
Review of Vauxhall And I - Morrissey by arthurpringle

Advantages: Morrissey's best solo album
Disadvantages: You might not like Morrissey!

.... 10/10 Used To Be A Sweet Boy Another gentle song, Morrissey sings about a sweet ordinary boy who grew up to be a bit strange and tries to work out who is to blame. Yes, this song just might be autobiographical! The orchestration on this song is incredibly lush and wistful and Morrissey's vocals are truly inspired. 8/10 The Lazy Sunbathers This song is about war, specifically World War II, and the idle rich sunbathing and having a fine time desperately trying to pretend that nothing is going to affect them and putting thoughts of carnage and suffering to the back of their minds. Despite the strong message the song is melodic and in spirit with the rest of the album. "Religions fall Children shelled "...Children shelled ? That's all Very well, but would you Please keep the noise Down low ? Because you're waking The lazy... Read review

The best of the trilogy.
Review of Matrix Revolutions, The [ECD] - Don Davis by TheFirstEscapist

Advantages: SUPERB use of an orchestra. Highly innovative. The final track Navras - is worth the price alone.
Disadvantages: If you don't like dissonance - this is not for you.

...I am not a fan of the final movie. But I am a HUGE fan of the score for the final movie. It is absolutely superb. From the opening unmistakable Matrix triads on the trumpets at the beginning to the pounding of the final track Navras - this is a superb score. It will not appeal to everyone however. This track takes influences from Mahler, Wagner, and to an extent Shostakovich. It is in no way a score that will appeal commercially. Don Davis (the composer) is a contemporary of John Williams and has worked with Williams for many years as an orchestrator. Often it is the orchestrators who have really good ideas - and The Matrix series is without doubt the set of films that will propel Davis into the mainstream. Goodness knows what the budget is - but I know that Davis had an orchestra of about 90 players and definitely 99 choral... Read review

A sensual sound from Kate
Review of Sensual World, The - Kate Bush by Salgirl

Advantages: Kate Bush at her best
Disadvantages: May not be liked by first time listeners

...Kate Bush is a goddess of music and this album sees her in a sexy, sultry mood. The title track is a delicious musical interpretation of how James Joyce writes his works. Beauty and brains, a rare combination. The journey through the music on here takes a few typical twists and turns, some deep and heartfelt, some rather startling. The latter, for example, you can hear in "Heads We're Dancing" which tells the tale of a woman who unwittingly dances with Hitler. Tracks that stand out for me on this album are "The Sensual World", "Love And Anger", "The Fog", "Between A Man And A Woman" and "This Woman's work". They show the musicianship that Kate Bush has learned over the years, and her skill at creating melodies that don't necessarily conform to what people consider as normal, yet they work beautifully, are represented here. For all... Read review
