This album epitomises lenny kravitz – inconsistency – moments of musical genius and then moments of self indulgent durge you can fast forward through. The opening track which gives the album its title is a clear winner – it is raw, it is bluesy and it shouts at you in the face. This level is ever really re-reached by later songs. There are however some nice slow ones (heaven help – particularly good, and, sister, a good acoustic epic at 7mins long). He tries to cover many different genres of music without ever really convincing in any of them (track one excepted). This still remains a good album, but not as good as it perhaps could have been.
