Argue - Nostromo

Advantages: Very eerie, atmospheric. Original use of instruments.
Disadvantages: Have to have seen the film to appreciate fully.

...This has to be possibly the scariest music ever composed for a film, fittingly because Alien is one of the scariest films. Jerry Goldsmith proves his versatility yet again as the score is full of surprises and original use common instruments. His use of the echoing trumpet is a perfect accompaniment to the mounting tension aboard the Nostromo and on the alien planet. It becomes almost non-musical at times and more based on clever use of orchestral instruments played or recorded in a different manner. The title theme is immensely powerful and sums up the sheer loneliness of deep space. As perfect for the film as Vangelis' score for Blade Runner, also directed by Ridley Scott.... Read review

...I love this girl’s voice. I love Celtic accents anyway but Delores O’Riordan has the most hauntingly beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. On the Cranberries album, No Need to Argue she looks stunning on the cover and it contains the best selling track Zombie. The music is not revolutionary but it wonderfully written and had a social comment. There are some slower ballads on the album, which suit O’Riordans voice as she picks the high notes. Less is heard these days about the Cranberries which is a shame but as with so many bands that have early success, the future tends to be a disappointment.... Read review

...Cher has fabulous music and she performs really well. As for her facelifts - well who am I to delve into her personal life? All I am interested in is her talent which is undoubtedly immense. At over fifty some may argue that she should sit back and let some younger artists move to the forefront. If this was the case, we could be denied many great songs - what would have happened if Tina Turner had just bowed down and given in at Cher's age - many great songs would never have been released. The electronics used to affect her voice are used really well and people use this to deny Cher's great talent. Well I would argue that all artists use a certain amount of electrical equipment to make their voice sound "A1" (!), its just that Cher does more so resulting in an original and interesting style of music....
