Now tell me, what is it that people like most about the Deftones? Could it be the passion, or the intricate lyrics. Who knows, maybe it is that and something else... Something where you have to let the music take control of your soul, and just let the words flow through one ear and out the other. "Just to get the chance to endeavor any word spoken, is a chance to a new beginning." That was just something I heard some quote at one of the Deftones concerts I had been too about a year ago.
The first Deftones album as most people recall as being Adrenaline blew us literally out of our chairs. With many memorable tracks and songs such as 7 words, Minus Blindfold, and Bored. In the process, something was about to take place, unlike we had ever experienced before. Deftones road to fame was a very painful, but rewarding at the same time. They came through stronger than ever with their second album release in the year of 1997 with Around the Fur. Yes, the Deftones are back, after the release White Pony a fourth album is indefinently on the way.

Such a simple line-up, but that really does not mean a thing. Think about it deeply, what capacity can we put on how far music ability can reach? It is truly something you never could put a measure on.
What you will find on the album Around the Fur is a little bit of everything. You will be able to taste the different musical variations that come along with the package deal. So this time the theme is "variety" and the Deftones have got it down.
The first released single called My Own Summer (shove it) is one of the highlight songs off this particular album. As you can easily guess, it is the first track off the album Around the Fur. Starting off with steady guitar riffs, and steady drums and backup on bass. Then going on into the next segment with the chorus. "I think God is moving its tongue there are no crowds in the streets, and no sun in my summer, the shade is a tool a device a savior."
The second released single called Be quiet and drive (far away) which can be easily found on selected track six. A little different from the other songs on the album, this song is all about individuality, and freedom. Something we all need sometimes in our lives. "This town don't feel mine I'm fast to get away far, I dressed you in her clothes, now drive me far away." Certainly an anthem to the people that want a little bit more "freedom" which is something that we all deserve to grab a hold of sanity, and stay with it.
Mascara, no it is more of a song that is more important than the tube of mascara you tossed out this morning. Get hipnotized, get sucked into what you want, for she is the girl you lost, the girl you want. Slow guitar and low bass and steady drums, the flow of this song is perfect to make the mood set. "I feel soon I will sink into you, what do you think' because there is still blood in your hair, and I've got the bruise of the year, but there is something about her long shady eyes."
The following was just a little of preview of what can be fully experienced on the Around the Fur album. This is the total lineup:
1) My own summer (shove it) 2) Ihabia 3) Mascara 4) Around the Fur 5) Rickets 6) Be quiet and drive (far away) 7) Lotion 8) Dai the flu 9) Headup 10) MX
So this is the wrap-up as we know it. Around the Fur is one of the best Deftones albums, as all of the albums are. You will find unlimited creativity and distinctive individuality in the Deftones second Album release. An album that you will be able to treasure and listen to as the years come over.
Advantages: Crunching guitars, incredible vocals/lyrics, no other band like 'em Disadvantages: Erm, perhaps not to everyones taste?
...and almost shell-shocking musical experience, Around the Fur takes all the core elements of Deftones’ sound so prevalent on that album and develops it into a thing of incredible melodic beauty, leaving a sound that hasn’t been matched to this day.
Right from the off, the album reeks of intent and meaning. Opening track ‘My Own Summer (Shove It)’ comes rasping into place, Cheno Moreno’s gravelly whisper feeding off the guitar lick before a blast ... ...sound has come from. It is ruthless, graceful and intelligent, and an album that any lover of heavy music simply has to acquire.

Advantages: Contains many classics, all the songs are good Disadvantages: Less accessible than "white pony"
...the front, if you travel around it and look behind there is blood and flesh. This perhaps is as good an expression of the contrasting nature of deftones' melodic/heavy sound, which is integrated seamlessly in this album.
This really is a great album, and makes a perfect companion to "adrenaline" and "white pony". I feel with every item of deftones' discography that you acquire, it somehow lets you appreciate the other more.
Whether this is in fact ... ...a timeless classic, they are both great albums, especially together, and very worthy of a good listen and purchase.
I'm therefore not giving around the fur 5 out of 5, rather 4, but bear in mind that this is a high four, and it really is a classic album. ...

Advantages: Classic Disadvantages: Took them ages to make another album !
For their second album, the Deftones pulled out all the stops. With a great production (again from Terry Date) and some excellant tunes such as My Own Summer (Shove It) and Get In a car And Drive (Far Away) this album is a clasic from start to finish. With great passion and intensity they take all the elements fo the first album and push them up to ten, and it is the sort of materila that goes over brilliantly in the live arena (which I haven't had ...

Advantages: Equally heavy and melodic, great vocals Disadvantages: None
When the Deftones first came onto the scene, it was with more of a whimper than a bang. This was no fault of theirs, however, as their debut album 'Adrenaline' was a fine collection of tortured vocalising and blunt-edged riffing. 'Around The Fur' is even less commercial than 'Adrenaline' but pushes the intensity and melody levels up one notch higher. Their ever-cool frontman Chino Moreno manages to wring out every different noise from his throat ... ...song. For example, 'Lotion' is completely crushing; staccato riffs over a whitewash of vocal screams, that is, until the gorgeously melodic chorus occurs which changes the feel of the entire song. The subject matter is similar to that of their debut but mixes in some weird sexual references ('Lhabia') and Chino's relationship with his wife ('Mascara' and 'Dai The Flu'). The band display some new influences, as the ghost of the Smashing Pumpkins floats ...

Advantages: its the Deftones!!!! say no more!!!! Disadvantages: they dont receive the credit they deserve!!!
...While it might seem that around the fur takes a much more subtle aproach to the music than adrenaline did, theirs something eerie and wonderful about this album. With memerable songs suhc as my own summer and head up, this album is heavy but in a clever and thoughtful way. Whilst Chinos voice continues to bring a shiver down any fans back, the rest of the band contribute to pull of briliant riffs and unpredictable bass lines. Whether your a fan already ...

Album Notes
Deftones: Chino (vocals); Stef (guitar); Chi (bass); Abe (drums). Additional personnel: Max Cavalera (vocals, guitar); Annalyn Cunningham (background vocals). Recorded at Studio Litho, Seattle, Washington. AROUND THE FUR, the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive ADRENALINE, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening "My Own Summer (Shove It)," serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme: sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to "Headup," while "MX" finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles: his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
