Advantages: Wonderful sonic landscapes, great surround sound DVD. Disadvantages: Some songs a little overprocessed.
..." is probably my least favourite track on the album, it seemed a little over processed and used some rather irritating samples. "The Internal Locus" was the first track which really made this album unclassifiable. It starts like the others, with ambience, yet soon we can hear an orchestra coming close, and then in full blown effect. By the end we have some of BTs style of Dance. 1.618 follows a similar pattern, but is totally different in it's execution. There is the use of an orchestra again but more focus on electronic melodies than strings. A beautiful and harmonic piece. "See You On The Other Side", apparently a tribute to BTs late companion Tootsie, is one of the more basic (but not my any means to say uninteresting) songs on the album. Piano chords, guitars and synthetic chimes build this piece, and just over half way into the track we...

Advantages: Soulful. thoughtful , emotional. Disadvantages: Sometimes a little thin on top notes.
...What a voice! Strong, confident and not afraid to take chances. Comparisons are constantly being made with Dusty Springfield but for me only one track, Serious, conjures up her spirit. The sixties are ever present on this album though, with nods to other vocalists with soul such as Arethea Franklin, Martha Reeves and Lulu. It could almost be a Phil Spector wall of sound production.
Mercy with it's awsome backbeat stands out of course but Stepping Stone competes with it as stand out track with its echoes of Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach. The combination of retro arrangements and modern day production is a winning one.
Bernard Butler of Suede contributes mightily with writing, arranging and a beautifully played array of atmospheric guitar.I genuinly feel that Duffy has more of a future in this buisness than Joss Stone, purely because...

Advantages: Good catchy tunes Disadvantages: Tracks do tend to sound similar

It also has ‘Part of the Process’ which a lot of people are familiar with and is a personal favourite and ‘Big Calm’, the title track.
This is a good album if you want something to chill to or have on in the background. The only disadvantage is that, the almost word ‘samey’ can be applied. But none the less, I think it is a good album to have as part of a collection....
