the loosely based biography of Abba titled, 'Mamma Mia.' This show continues to play to a sell out house in the West End.
By the time 'Arrival' was released in the Britain in November 1976, it was already their forth U.K release. It went straight to number one and stayed for a proud 92 weeks. Benny and Frida had been a long term couple and eventually married in 1978. Bjorn and Agnetha were already married in 1973. They divorced in 1979 and Benny and Frida divorced in 1981. Similar to Fleetwood Mac, they had had their fill of personal relationship heartaches. Probably more so than Mac, their troubles of the heart had been widely covered and persisted by the media, especially over here. Being aware of their enormous fame, they remained assured, erect and professional at all times both in front of the press and on stage and like Mac again ...
A somewhat unexpected task is that of reviewing an ABBA album within the context of clasic album after the universal impact of so many wonderful singles ,which to be fair always came off good if not great long players ,what sets Arrival apart from those previous efforts is its wholeness and aspiration for mass appeal not known since The Beatles and what makes that goal even more remarkable is that it was achieved without rock's classic benchmark references to sex, drugs ,politics or social comment ,that isnt to say this record is vacuous or lacking in intimacy, quite the opposite considering the groups domestic and romantic connections to each other .
The release of Arrival followed a triumphant string of huge hit singles and public recognition which transcended their stuttering start as Eurovision winners in 1974,the heavenly "Dancing ...
Advantages: An excellent introduction to Journey Disadvantages: None
Journey are a band I have grown to like more and more over the last 3 or 4 years. The only song I really knew by them was the ballad 'Open Arms' which has been covered by a few artists including Mariah Carey.
I really liked this song and downloaded another ballad by them titled 'Faithfully' which I often listened to on my pc.
I was browsing at a car boot sale a few years ago and saw a cassette of their album 'Raised On Radio' for 20p. I bought it and listened to it in my car while driving home. I liked it right away and from then on have grown to really like Journey.
I decided to buy their greatest hits album after seeing it on Ebay at a bargain price, and it has became one of my most played albums.
THE BAND :
Journey are an American rock band who formed in 1973 with former members of Santana, but they have undergone a few line ...
Journey: Steve Augeri (vocals); Neal Schon (guitar, background vocals); Jonathan Cain (keyboards, background vocals); Ross Valory (bass, background vocals); Deen Castronovo (drums, background vocals). Engineers: Aya Takemura, Kevin "Spank" Shirley. Recorded at The Plant Recording Studios, Sausalito, California, Avatar Studios and The Cave, New York, New York. Arena rock veterans Journey must have felt the pressure to meet and hopefully surpass expectations on their first studio album without Steve Perry. The choice of his successor and what the band could offer without him had been the subjects of argument and speculation for some time. Journey's ARRIVAL fits the bill comfortably and triumphantly. While it doesn't rock as hard as TRIAL BY FIRE, the songwriting is top notch, and producer Kevin Shirley continues to bring out the best in the bands he works with. Former Tall Stories/Tyketto vocalist Steve Augeri steps into some very big shoes and delivers emotive, soaring vocals on ballads such as "All the Way" and "All the Things." Rockers "Higher Place" and "We Will Meet Again" are in the minority, but are sure to please long time fans. New drummer Deen Castronovo puts his chops on a leash and shows his ability to be a true ensemble player. An obvious single, "Signs of Life" sounds as close to the Journey spirit as the band can get without Perry, while the smoldering "Kiss Me Softly" shows that the new Journey has a few aces up its collective sleeve.
