Fred Claus

Advantages: Funny film!
Disadvantages: Not one for under 10's!

Claus - Vince Vaughn Nick (Santa) Claus - Paul Giamatti Willie - John Michael Higgins Annette Claus - Miranda Richardson Wanda - Rachel Weisz Mother Claus - Kathy Bates Papa Claus - Trevor Peacock DJ Donnie - Chris "Ludacris" Bridges Charlene - Elizabeth Banks Bob Elf - Jeremy Swift Linda Elf - Elizabeth Berrington Clyde - Kevin Spacey FINALLY Overall, I thought that ?Fred Claus? was an entertaining Christmas film, but not one of the greats. I don?t think it?s one for younger kids, but I think 10 years upwards would really enjoy it. You can?t take it too seriously (like how saints and their families stay the same age for ever when you have to be dead to be a saint! and how Fred emerged in Chicago as an American when born in a Bavarian forest hundreds of years ago) hey ? that?s poetic license!! Worth seeing ...

Fred Flaws

Advantages: Some funny moments.
Disadvantages: Not enough funny moments because of the sloppy writing.

sticks to tried and tested Christmas favourites like "Jingle Bells", "Sleigh Ride", "Here Comes Santa Claus", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", "Let It Snow" and "Silent Night". The only slightly unexpected track is "Rubbernecking" which accompanies a bout of elf moshing. "Fred Claus" is a so-so Christmas family film that doesn't make enough of its stars or the central conceit. There are some funny moments for grown-ups, but it's more of a film for kids that haven't seen the slapstick jokes before. The writing lacks focus and the romantic subplots are unnecessary and poorly executed. There's never any doubt there will be a happy ending and the movie will start to fade from your memory as soon as the credits roll. If you're looking for something to amuse the kids for a couple of hours over the festive period, you could do worse. But its ...

Kill Bill Vol. 2 - can it cut it?

Advantages: Amazing music, sharp script
Disadvantages: Last third drags on a bit

Kill Bill Vol. 2 is the concluding installment of the Kill Bill saga. In this one the Bride (Uma Thurman) continues her vengeance against her ex-boss, Bill, and the two remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad; his younger brother Budd, and Bill's latest flame Elle. The first one had more of an eastern feel, this one is more like a western. So it's dusty, dirty and sweaty. Again Tarantino enlists the help of Ennio Morricone, the man who can take an ordinary western and make it legendary. His music is masterful, the lone trumpets in his compositions invoking a sense of isolation and the wild west, which is exactly the tone this film needs. The acting is good again, helped by a sharp script. The action scenes are fewer and far between than the first one but equally as impressive. Again during the fight scenes ...
