... It's arguably the most radio-friendly song off the album, and although it is strong, tracks like 'Silhouette', 'Under A Killing Moon' or 'Artist In The Ambulance' are better tracks if you want to discover more on the band. But let me point out, the bridge on this track is one of the best I've ... Read review

Artist In The Ambulance
Review of Artist In The Ambulance, The - Thrice by CarlMcQ

Advantages: hardcore at it's best
Disadvantages: just the odd weak song

Be it 'hardcore', 'emo', 'hard rock' or just 'music, Thrice have the gift of written melodies and harmonies in any style. This serving, their second album, shows how heavy music (but not scream-incuded I should re-iterate) should be done. The opening track 'Cold Cash & Colder Hearts' jumps right into the thick of things, and after just thirty seconds or so you can see there is melody involved with these guys, and not just low-tuned power chords. ...
...be described as an oxymoron considering the music style, but lyrics like this occur quite often during the album, focusing on the more optimistic side of life, fighting through adversity. 'Under a Killing Moon' was one of the first tracks I heard from the band, and sounds better live in my opinion (having seen them at Reading Festival in 2004 - what a performance). But here the style of old school metal riffs and emo harmonies join perfectly and ... Read review

...like this. This truly for the trained musician. Not that I am, I just like the style of music. The overall presentation of the album is good. The inlay has all the lyrics to the songs. It is clean white. The front picture is looking at a building. A hospital (hence the title). ... Read review

Thrice = High powered hardcore
Review of Illusion Of Safety, The - Thrice by  joejanman

Advantages: Hardcore at its best
Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted

...high, but it carries on and gets better finishing with the equally pumped up The Beltsville Crucible. Other good songs include Deadbolt and Where Idols Once Stood. Track Listing: Kill Me Quickly A Subtle Dagger See You In The Shadows Betrayal Is A Symptom Deadbolt In The Years To Come The Red Death A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds Where Idols Once Stood Trust To Awake And Avenge The Dead So Strange I Remember You The Beltsville Crucible Should you attain a copy of this album and enjoy it i recomend you also attain a copy of The Artist In The Ambulance, this is Thrice's latest offering to the hardcore scene. It is equally good and goes off on a slightly more experimental tangeant.... Read review

My desert island disk
Review of Illusion Of Safety, The - Thrice by  dejavudreams

Advantages: Brilliant guitar work, high energy, fast-paced post-hardcore
Disadvantages: Slightly repetitive drumming, shortish songs

...that their former album had been plagued with and they had become more of a post-hardcore/solid rock band. The album got a great deal of praise and sold very well and helped them establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of rock music. Their next album was 'The Artist In The Ambulance', which was their first major label release. I'm sure many Thrice fans feared a possible 'sell-out' situation when they heard that the famous Island records would be in charge of bringing the album to the public, but their fears were unfounded as Thrice released a slightly differently styled yet brilliantly solid album. 'The Artist In The Ambulance' was filled with longer and perhaps slightly more melodic songs (excluding the brutal 'Paper Tigers'). The album was even more successful than it's predecessor and made sure that anyone who wasn't yet... Read review

Thrice - Vheissu
Review of Vheissu - Thrice by  egox2k7

Advantages: More diverse, lyrically brilliant.
Disadvantages: None

...Vheissu is Thrice's fourth studio cd and shows how much the band has changed from the first to this one. This cd has a totally different sound for Thrice, and shows the band has matured since The Artist in the Ambulance. Before this cd they were often lumbered with the emo tag next to their name, but this cd just blows away any bands that could be classed as emo. Thrice fans that enjoyed the heavy side of Thrice may not like this cd, but I feel this cd will also gain a lot more fans that maybe were sceptical about Thrice's less progressive side before this cd. Musically the cd has a lot more instruments than there would have been on any previous cd, with keyboards, violins and many other instruments. Lyrically the band have stepped it up a notch as well The opening song on the cd "Image of the Invisible" gets the cd off to a great... Read review
