... I am a great fan of Alicia Keys and owning both of her previous albums, I can realize how hard it must have been to top what she has previously released!
"As I Am" is an album full of soul and comes right from the heart of arguably one of the best R&B/Jazz singers out there today. The album ... Read review

least a couple of interviews with Alicia Keys in which she explained that first single, "No One"--a firestorm of a song clearly born of a sore heart and steeped in serious soul-searching, was about her decision to retreat from the obligations of stardom when she found out a loved one was in need of her care. The anecdote sticks not just because it explained the song so well--you can actually hear the pain, commitment, and determination in her sultry voice--but because it gets at what makes the woman behind the music so appealing. There's only one way R&B artists grow to become legends, and it's by drenching the words they sing with feeling (think Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack). The skeptical listener might have had her doubts before As I Am, but there's no mistaking it now: Alicia Keys is well on her way to sharing a category with them. This record radiates not just old-soul maturity, the kind Alicia fans say makes her modern rarity, but real soul. Vintage-leaning hooks and horns grab hold on "Where Do We Go from Here" and an assortment of other songs, but Keys can also get by just fine without them, as she proves on more pop-flavored numbers like "Lesson Learned," with John Mayer, and "Superwoman." The genres may be smearing, she seems to say, but bring them on: she won't shrink back. Her commitment is not to a single style but to what's stirring her soul. Because of it, she's moving R&B, or something like it, from the hips back to the heart. --Tammy La Gorce

Advantages: Range of sounds, fantastic lyrics and vocal talents. Disadvantages: N/A
...a fan of artists such as John Legend, Marlena Shaw, Angie Stone, Jamie Foxx, Joss Stone or any similar artists then this is most definitely the album for you!
1. As I Am (intro): Unlike many albums with an 'Intro' track, this one really sets the tone as well as the standard for the rest of the album. It starts of with some elegant, blissful piano playing, followed by a variety of funky, soulful R&B beats and finished off with a round of applause, ... ...without Alicia singing so much as a note, you will be expecting something good and that is exactly what you get. The track starts off with a quiet bit off clapping and then the voice of Miss Keys starts with a sound, repetitive backing beat. The track is a fantastic track to really open the album with some fantastic soulful sounds as well as showing you how well this girl can sing!
3. Superwoman: A very suitable name for a track which is to be sung ...

Advantages: Refreshing classical piano, promising vocal talent Disadvantages: None that can't be put up with - although there are few out of place tracks towards the beginning
...'s strong chilled out and classical sides.
The album ties itself up with the duet of songs Why Do I Feel So Sad and Caged Bird. The first being a bitter sweet urban feeling groove (she's definitely been listening to too much Anita Baker and Sade and just modernised it lol) and the second being a blissfully calm almost a capella piece where you get the impression Keys is almost singing to herself. A conclusive effort to finish the album - apart from the 2 remixes that sit on the end (if you’ve got the special edition like me).
So my verdict? Well Iam well and truly sold as far as AliciaKeys goes. Even if you're not a great modern RnB fan as Iam not, there is still so much on this album that will appeal to you and if you are a fanatic of the genre it should also please your ears. I don't buy too many modern albums until I have heard a good...

Advantages: DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL COMMERCIAL SONGS Disadvantages: a bit too mellow sometimes
...of icicng on the cake.
I'd Like To**** - Very Indie Arie, Erykah Badu style of of music. You will definitely be singing along to the chorus and you don't need to know the words to do this.
Butterfly***** - ANOTHER OF MY FAVOURITES, SHOWER ME WITH YOUR LOVE, This song gets better each time I hear it. It gets you thinking, it is a song of appreciation of love given unconditionally. I love the chorus so so much, I hope she releases this as a single too as I'll like to get the instrumental.
Seasons Change*** - If you love AliciaKeys then you will definitely love this song, it reminds me of one of Alicia's songs, Jane Doe especially the beginning of the track, then again Iam one of those people that has listened to so much music that they almost start to sound the same. Personally not one of my favourites but the chorus gives the song...

Advantages: Some good tunes, suitable for anyone any age Disadvantages: Also some poor quality tunes, getting worse each time a new ones out
...I also have it on the Timberland album 'Shock value' The vocal and instrumentals are brilliant and one of the best songs of the year I feel. This is not the original Timberland version but the OneRepublic version but it is just as good none the less.
*3. AliciaKeys - No One
A song from her latest album 'As IAm' that was available in shops from 13th of November, a popular tune from a well known artist. Easy to listen to and good vocals.
*4. Mika - Happy Ending
From the album 'Life In Cartoon Motion' a slow happy sounding song, down-beat compared to other songs by Mika but still of good quality.
*5. Kanye West ft.Chris Martin - Homecoming
Lively song with mainly piano instrumentals, extremely good lyrics, very typical of songs by Kanye West I certainly like it all though not one of the best on the album.
*6. The Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr...
