Hailed by Paul Weller himself as his best work in 10 years. And who am I to disagree?
As Is Now hit the shops on Monday 10th October, and hit my CD player very shortly afterwards. I was not disappointed.
It opens with Blink And You'll Miss It, a stonking piece of guitar pop, which announces Paul's intentions. Paper Smile slows things down a little before the latest single, Come On/Let's Go, cranks up the pace and the volume.
Those of you who are familiar with Paul's previous work will no doubt catch the echoes of WildWood, Stanley Road and his Jam days. Those who have heard very little of Paul Weller will simply get their hands on an astonishingly good album.
In my opinion, if it counts for anything, this album is well worth shelling out for. It contains a number of well crafted, finely played and exquisitely sung songs. The only down side is the eight minute funk work out on track 13. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but is still a good tune.
The special edition comes complete with a DVD, which includes exclusive in the studio footage and a short documentary on the making of the album. And absolute must for Weller completists, and an interesting insight into his methods for those with limited experience.
Hardcore Weller fans will already have this, and I don't have to convince them. The rest of you should, if you get the chance, pick up a copy. Trust me. You won't be disappointed.
