...Japan had made quite significant progress in their musical careers before the release of Gentlemen Take Polaroids in late 1980. Early on they had combined a curious style, verging on heavy metal, with a stage presence something after the fashion of the New York Dolls. Their albums has seen them gradually change that style and become more individual.
The 1980 album finally managed to turn the critical tide; it proved a strong seller although, ironically, it was a rather patchy affair. It was also becoming increasingly obvious that Rob Dean’s guitar contributions were now badly out of step with Japan’s new synthesiser laden sounds - he featured on only four tracks on the album and was soon to split to work with Gary Numan.
The album was probably their best so far, but the group had still not really assumed the massive proportions...

Advantages: Plenty fabulous tracks, deep meaning Disadvantages: Maybe a bonus track would have been nice!
...everything turned around for the worst. Billie was beginning to struggle. Her rival, Britney Spears was making it big, and Billie had a lot of personal problems and health issues, and felt like she was tackling everything on her own. Because of this, the songs on Walk Of Life are a little bit more meaningful than her previous album.
*****
Walk Of Life comes complete with 12 tracks:
1) Day And Night
2) Something Deep Inside
3) Walk Of Life
4) Safe With Me
5) Bring It On
6) Ring My Bell
7) The Tide Is High
8) Run That By Me
9) Promises
10) Because Of You
11) What Game Is This?
12) Misfocusing
Each track has its own meaning and style!
MOST PREFFERED:
Its really hard to choose the best song from this album, but I do have a few favourites! One of the catchiest songs would have to be, for me, Something Deep Inside. It has a fantastic beat to it...

...What this man can't do with a guitar is not worth knowing! Who would ever have thought you could use a guitar as your drum kit? Having bought the album and playing it non stop in the car for 3 weeks I had to see him in concert and he didn't dissapoint. This man even admitted on stage he pushes himself to his maximum ability so there may be bum notes but even on stage it sounds just as good as this CD. It's a shame artist feel the need to include these little ditty's of acoustic guitar playing in between tracks to lengthen their albums though, especially when he admitted on stage having to exclude alot of material from this album. Now i'm off to turn my drum kit into a guitar....
