Advantages: Soulful songs written with style and depth Disadvantages: maybe a bit too melancholy for some peoples tastes
...warm and relaxed.
Songs like Trouble and Forever My Friend have an immediacy that will have you hooked in no time, but there's also an undercurrent of songs that although not exactly radio-friendly, have a depth and character all of their own. The album shares similarities with Bruce Springsteens "Nebraska" on some of it's more melancholy tracks which goes someway to describing it's rootsy feel.
It's a real whiskey-sipping album with it's own time-zone and one which I've had nothing but positive comments from to the friends I have played it to. The strange thing is that for an album with a running time of 44 minutes, it feels like it's over too soon.
Let's hope that Ray doesn't miss the reclusive life too much and trades the studio for his much-fabled log cabin....

Advantages: Brilliant tracks all round Disadvantages: None
...This album, when first released, was the turning point in pop/indie. The lustrous mix of solemn, guitar lead indie ballads such as "Shiver" and "Sparks" coupled with the anthem-like, catchy chords of "Trouble" and "Yellow" not only made this album unique, but it also brought a whole new sound to what we call 'pop' as well as creating a whole new genre in it self.
Whether you're looking for a great chillout album for the days basking in the summer sun, or just some purely, magical production and musicianship that goes into an album like this, this album will bring tears of joy and possibly sorrow with every listen, time and time again, because as unlikely as it may seem, this first album from British royalty, Colplay, is a modern day, timeless classic....

Advantages: A burst of creativity, sublime song writing, Unique melodys Disadvantages: Looses Focus
...Unique and Uplifting, an album that fails to dissapoint. Carried by Chris Martins amazing vocals the album goes from strength to strength diplaying a range of acoustic melodies and heavy drum beats.
Dreamy tracks such as the impressive "don't panic" with the lyrics "we live in a beautiful world" keeps the tone calm and delays the burst of energy seen in tracks such as "shiver" and "yellow". The mesmorising tracks of "spies" and "trouble" help to dampen the mood and display a dark and desperate coldplay capable of producing an album able to stir emotion and manipulate your mood. The concluding part of the album lacks a cutting edge in terms of lyrics or structure though the music produced allows you to forget and drift into another world.
An album that is beautiful. A classic in its own right. If this album isn't on your shelf...
