...Citing Radiohead, Incubus and Coldplay, within the booklet, as bands the listener should tune into, it becomes clear, even without listening to a note, where the band's influences will lie. These influences are indeed clear to be seen right from the very start in Charity Burns Green; using Incubus-styled vocals that sound as if they are reaching out to a distant object, attempting to draw it nearer. The result of this is a record that with the punkier guitaring sounds very much like emo, in the vein of Boy Sets Fire, but without the harder, screaming vocals, nor the foibles that we often find in that type of music. Yet, these influences do not define the album. It quite happily has its own sound and a good one at that.

Advantages: Wonderfull Hardcore at Its Brutal Best Disadvantages: Not For Mass Consumption
...For sheer hardcore punk brilliance you don't get much better than Poison Idea, leading a lifestyle that would have killed lesser mortals. In the 90's the band released a holy trinity of classic albums. We Must Burn is one of the three must have Poison Idea Albums. Recorded between March and October 1992 with the classic line up of Jerry A. (Vocals), Pig Champion (Guitar), Mondo (Guitar), Myrtle Tickner (Bass), and Thee Slayer Hippy (Drums). This album is a fine example of punk and metal being combined to great effect, a lot of fans dislike this one because of the more metal nature of the albums, but where as the music is more metal than punk, lyrically it is pure nihilistic punk rock…… fantastic stuff in my book………..
Don't Ask Why

Advantages: It's really good Disadvantages: They recently split up
...Hefner are Anthony, Darren, Jack and John. The band started around 95/96, relatively unknown, the majority of their songs are love songs penned and sang by the angelic voice of Darren Hayman. Quite how they have remained “underground” is a mystery to me. This might sound like the viewpoint of a blinkered, over zealous fan but I’m fairly confident that their appeal is not limited to my tastes.
"We will laugh the day that Thatcher dies
Even though we know it’s not right
We will dance and sing all night"
Defining a bands sound in words is something outside the scope of my literary talents so I will try to use some comparisons. Lyrically I shall be so bold as to compare them to Morrisey. (Hope I don’t incense those many worshipful Smiths fans) The sound is fairly low key, sometimes folky, sometimes light rock. (light rock?!?) Band...
