Additional notes
Album Notes: One of producer and remixer Matthew Dear's first releases under his own name--his best-known alias is Audion, under which he records hard-edged techno--ASA BREED is a straightforward electronic pop record, not far removed from the early-1980s likes of Yaz and Depeche Mode. "Deserter" features multi-tracked vocals singing a languid melody over a coolly retro synth arrangement, while "Shy" and "Pom Pom" strip things down even further into pure synth minimalism. ASA BREED is a charming electronic pop album likely to appeal to many beyond the style's usual cult audience.
Album Reviews: Entertainment Weekly (p.77) - "[He] doesn't so much sing as intone over percolating, minimalist electro-pop....Dear joyously defies categorization." -- Grade: B
