city of Birmingham invented an ethnic-based brand of party music. As Asian Groove shows, today's young ravers have upped the ante, drawing upon percussive Punjabi bhangra and qawwali, an ecstasy-inducing Pakistani devotional style made famous by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. These are then festooned with defiantly artificial canned snares, ambient electronics, plus absurdist quotes from Bollywood musicals, saccharine Euro-pop and over-the-top lounge clichés. The resulting polyglot pastiches tend to be fashioned in broad strokes and are thus not ideal for quiet living-room listening. However, they are BPM nirvana when experienced in a nightclub with a few hundred other blissed-out, glassy-eyed dancers. That being said, these are fascinating examples of one of the world's more subtly subversive underground movements, where music is being made by and for populations who prefer to assimilate only so much and on their own terms. --Christina Roden
certainly no New Age dilution involved, with all of its Anglo-American contributors intent on relocating Indian or Pakistani traditions within a vibrantly modernised production framework. Writer and producer Phil Meadley has assembled a sequence of less likely artists, particularly with US-based contributors Cheb i Sabbah, Karsh Kale, Dan The Automator and DJ Baba G. In terms of the familiar UK market, Nitin Sawhney, TJ Rehmi and Badmarsh & Shri are all well represented. The odd one out is India's Ravi Shankar, his completely acoustic "Acquired Dreams" stretching right back to 1984. Even Pakistan's Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is remixed into a spiralling pulse. Other stand-outs are provided by Najma Akhtar's gentle vocal gyrations, the Dhol Foundation's heavy stick-work against massed flutes and Fun-Da-Mental's now almost complete entanglement in their Qawwali roots. The common factor here is an assured coupling of club-orientated production techniques with an uncompromising acoustic virtuosity, whether it's coming from a classical or folk background, or somewhere mysterious in-between. --Martin Longley

Advantages: very lively Disadvantages: there are some part of the songs that are too noisy
...I like the song and i think that it is fit for the movie because it is lively with a touch of funkiness. The intro of the song where the variousartists sang in acapella has a big impact as well. I like the blending of their voices as well as their funky suits in their music video. I just find it too noisy in the latter part of the song because each the variousartists tend to sing their own tunes. I like the packaging of the cd as well as the cd itself. Great music! Really groovy! and it makes the listener groove to the music! it is a must have cd and it is actually one of my favorite because i like such kinds of music genre. It has its own originality and is very hip and cool!...

Advantages: Excellent choice of tracks Disadvantages: None!
...Even if you haven't seen the film the soundtrack would be a good buy. It's got a good variation of artists and styles of music. There's uptempo r'nb by Pink, Donnel Jones, and the fanastic track by Montel Jordan. You can't go wrong with a bit of Ice Cube and "You can do it" reminds you of the scene where she firsts gets her groove on in the club! Chaka Demus and Pliers give it a good ragga boost with Murder She Wrote, then you have some nice ballads by K-Ci and Jo Jo and Kevon Edmonds. The best track on the album is 112's Only You which is guaranteed to get you moving. This is one of the few soundtracks I can play from beginning to end without skipping any tracks....
