black-clad models in the hit video for "Addicted to Love". YetAt His Very Bestreveals him to be far more than simply a suave lady-killer. Indeed, he could be considered one of the finest white soul singers of his generation. Of course, his 1980s heyday is well represented here. "Addicted to Love" is a stand-out, alongside such hits as "Some Guys Have All the Luck", "Simply Irresistible" and "Some Like It Hot", the big hit he shared with Duran Duran's John and Andy Taylor as the Power Station. But fans will also enjoy the disco stylings of 1978's "Every Kinda People" (written by Free's Andy Fraser), the swampy funk of 1974's "Sneakin' Sally Thru the Alley" and a minimalistic but driving cover of ZZ Top's hilariously dumb "TV Dinners". This last track is a telling choice. Though Palmer is a serious student of music, he has always exhibited a gratifying sense of humour, a quality that's contributed mightily to his long-standing success. He's a wealthy man, and a diamond geezer.--Dominic Wills

Tanned troubadour Englebert Humperdinck still has the voice that seduced, charmed and

delighted millions for the last forty years. While starting out as Gerry Dorsey he was ignored, as Englebert Humperdinck he became a sex god and a (seemingly) permanent feature in the global hit parade. This collection includes Englebert classics--"Please Release Me", "The Last Waltz", "Quando Quando Quando" and "Spanish Eyes". Eight new recordings are also included, which should delight the hordes of Humperdinck faithful. A swinging version of "Strangers in the Night" is offered up, as is Burt Bacharach's "Nothing in This World"; "How to Win Your Love" and "Sometimes When We Touch" are contemporary chart-friendly ballads.--F.B.Hawkes

Additional notes
Album Notes: AT HIS VERY BEST is a 2002 collection of songs from bandleader Eric Winstone & His Orchestra, who achieved great popularity in the 1950s. Among the 20 tracks are "Rhapsody in Blue," "Weaver of Dreams," and "Fanfare Boogie."
Advantages: Every single song included, every single note I would even say. Disadvantages: The price of this and every album by this band, at least here in Spain...and the fact that this album happened to be the last this band recorded (not released)
...song from this album (or let say one of the bests ones). “Something in the way she moves, Attracts me like no other lover, Something in the way she woos me, I don't want to leave her now, You know I believe her now”.
Rate: 10/10
3. Maxwell’s Silver Hammer (Lennon-McCartney):
Another song with weird lyrics, but in a different way. This is a very funny song penned by McCartney, in which he sings about a medicine student involved in some murders with his silver hammer. Very funny lyrics for this piano song, in which Mal Evans (The Beatles road manager) played the anvil with a hammer…. As Harrison’s ‘Something’, this track was written during the ‘White Album’ sessions, but, again, the was no time to include it on that album, so the y recorded it and included at this one, ‘Abbey Road’. Lennon didn’t like this song, and he didn...

Advantages: nice collection of songs Disadvantages: important tracks are missing
...------------------------------------------------------------------
Parsons was originally a producer and invented the „producer’s album“, where composition, arrangement and production were the key issues, not a fixed line-up or certain musicians. Consequently Parsons changed musicians and even lead singers from song to song, only singer and co-producer Eric Woolfson could be seen as the second steady member.
The type of his music can roughly be called mainstream-rock, however with a great variety from epic ballads to medium-paced rocksongs. Composition and arrangement are eclectic, besides the common instruments drums, bass, guitar and keyboards Parsons loved to use a classic orchestra.
Basically his earlier pieces were arranged in a more classic way with a complex structure, including unusual harmonies and numerous changes in pace. Later he tended to use synthesizers, his compositions became more simple...

Advantages: Smokie at their best Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...and much reflection Smokie recruited singer Mike Craft and Smokie were back on the road.Craft, without doubt the one with the best vocal ability of of the 3 lead vocalists was an instant hit with the fans ,his ability to make any song his own brought Smokie back to the top of the charts and returned Smokie to the peak of popularity in Europe and Scandinavia
They have never stopped touring since.
After 30 years they decided to cover songs that a lot of people mistakingly thought were done by them originally. It was bound to be an interesting project to work on and the finished product did not leave me dissappionted.
My first thought on this album was the fact that their greatest hits had been re-recorded and re-mixed and came with this presentation but the covers disc was very interesting indeed.
When a band covers another artists song...
