Advantages: This groovy song makes gospel cool again! Disadvantages: Hear it a million times and you'll get sick of it, but isn't that true of anything?
..."Shackles" was a single that built a lot of bridges. It's one of the first truly gospel hits to make a significant impact in the pop market, and that really says something about the skill of duo MaryMary. They've managed to take gospel and make it cool again, and that's largely due to their vocal talent and the catchiness of this song.
Granted, you do get sick of it after a while, but it received massive exposure and MaryMary wowed audiences at R1's One Big Sunday (among others) with their ability to sing live.
Gospel is becoming cool in a big way if these two have anything to do with it, and if anyone can make that happen, it's them....
