Evangelion Soundtracks: Part 1
Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion OST Vol.1 - Various Artists by  berlioz

Advantages: Absolutely delightful with plenty of different musical styles to keep things varied
Disadvantages: "Asuka Strikes!" is really horrendous

...Circumstances," "Nadia" and "Macross II" being among his accomplishments, of which "Evangelion" is perhaps his best known work. By the appearance of the guy he seems to be somewhat of a cross between a struggling bohemian artist and a leftover from the '60s hippie era, only being Japanese. His score for Neon Genesis Evangelion is definitely one of the most diverse I have ever heard in either the movies or on TV. With a deft mix of traditional orchestral writing combined with many modern licks like electric guitars and rock percussion, loungy jazz music, intimate acoustic guitar and romantic piano, the diversity on display is impressive while it could easily make the score disjointed and fall apart. In a TV score that has to provide music for 26 episodes this kind of disjointedness is easier to get away with as it would be in a movie, but when... Read review

Everclear- Songs from an American Movie Volume 1: Learning How To Smile
Review of Songs From An American Movie Vol.1 (Learning How To Smile) - Everclear by  durl

Advantages: Great Pop-Punk Rock
Disadvantages: A little too light

...Everclear have had the great idea of releasing two albums in fairly close succession rather than releasing a double album. The first, "Songs from an American Movie Volume 1: Learning How To Smile" is lighter than previous Everclear albums, and floats along perfectly, blending superb melodies with Art Alexis's smooth vocals. This is perfectly formed pop-punk, but at the same time Everclear combine their sing-a-long tunes with a much more mature feel to that of Blink 182, for example. Songs like 'Here We Go Again', 'Unemployed Boyfriend' and 'Wonderful'are crisp and refreshingly melodic. The result is an album which is perfect in almost every way, and provides a superb transition between summer and autumn.... Read review

MOVIE MAGIC ON A CD
Review of Back To The Movies (40 Hits From The Flicks) - Various Artists by  matthewsmum

Advantages: Lots of well known and likeable tracks
Disadvantages: Some tracks will make you cringe

...lane and can only be played blaring out on an in-car CD player with the windows down! Ok ok, maybe I am getting a little carried away with memories of my youth and the sound of the 80's, but this is a great album and well worth a listen. So let me guide you through these hits of Movieland. Some tracks will take those who have seen a particular movie back in time, and others will make you wish you had never seen the movie in the first place. **CD1** = 01: Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We belong Taken from the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman", this well matched duo belt out this classic ballad. Joe Cocker's gravel-like vocals lead us into the track quite gently, shortly followed by Jennifer Warnes' energetic tones, and then the song builds up into a crescendo... Read review
