Advantages: Different, exciting and composed by a renound Electronica artist
Disadvantages: not a lyrical album with 'songs'

...This is an incredible soundtrack written for the 18th Century action/drama film Plunkett and Macleane starring Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller and Liv Tyler. It is composed by Craig Armstrong, also composer to some of the famous heavy instrumental tracks used in Baz Lurhman's Romeo and Juliet in1996 such as the track 'O Verona'. This whole sound track is in a very similar style to that of Romeo and Juliet in the sense that it uses so many different genres of music within one film. As the film is set in the 18th Century it seems a bit of an odd choice to ask Craig Armstrong to create the film score as he is known as an Electronica artist. Overall surprisingly it works though. This CD has some amazing tracks ranging in styles from Carl Orff's symphonic, apocalyptic methods, to Opera, to modern day dance tracks and calm/subdued background... Read review

"Shadows" is great score for Star Wars novel

..."A soundtrack for a Star Wars novel?" At first glance -- or first listen -- it seems an odd idea. Scores are composed for movies, TV programmes, and sometimes stage plays. But for books? Then again, quite a few classical music compositions are themselves derived from literary works. Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet" Overture was derived from Shakespeare tale of "starcross'd lovers," and Rimsky-Korsakov wrote his Scheherazade orchestral suite based on Tales of One Thousand Nights. So why couldn't there be a score for a Star Wars novel? In 1996, even as the 20th Anniversary Special Edition of the Star Wars Trilogy was being prepped for release in early 1997 and pre-production planning for Episode I was starting, Lucasfilm gathered several authors, artists, and representatives from Hasbro and other licensees to discuss a huge... Sith score completes Williams' Star Wars cycle

Advantages: John Williams' score, great performance by the LSO
Disadvantages: Tracks don't follow the film's action

...to a specific movie; The Forest Battle from Return of the Jedi and Landspeeder Search from A New Hope never recurred in any other Star Wars film. On the other hand, The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme), Yoda's Theme from The Empire Strikes Back, and The Emperor's Theme are quoted in all the subsequent Episodes in various guises, since those three characters are major players in both the Prequel and Classic Star Wars trilogies. Because Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith's narrative deals with Anakin Skywalker's tragic transformation into the evil Darth Vader and the rise of the Galactic Empire, Williams' score blends music from The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones with such familiar themes from A New Hope as Luke's Theme and Princess Leia's Theme.
