The new band formed from three members form Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden. The instrumentalists are the three members of Rage Against The Machine and Chris Cornell does the vocals (originally from Soundgarden). The mixture of these two experienced bands creates a whole new chapter in the world of rock. The aggressive sound of Rage Against The Machine and the wide ranged, melodic voice of Chris Cornell is definitely music you should not deprive yourself of!
The single out at the moment "Cochise" sets up what is to come further on in the album. The song is stunning and it just gets better as youy listen to the CD. The songs become more emotional and the music becomes more influential. The members of Audioslave must be very proud of themselves, as the album really reflects their most musically productive stage in their lives.
The album is of a good length, a typical 14 song CD with bonus pictures, music and videos accessed
on your PC. The songs are never let down by the previous song, it just seems to build itself up to a very calm and meaningful end, whereas the first song "Cochise" is very hard hitting and very upbeat, showing great variety and thought put into the album.
Audioslave, believe me, are not your typical, new age band. The sheer rock side of this album will leave you speechless and begging to re-visit the 80's to see some of the original rock!
The lyrics (composed by Chris Cornell) are mouth watering, they are poetic, everything you could ask for from a young, talented star. The other band members do not fail to back this up, by playing their own music to really emphasise what Chris Cornell is singing.
The tracks. There are 14 tracks altogether. The songs include; 1. Cochise (first single) 2. Show Me How To Live 3. Gasoline 4. What You Are 5. Like a Stone (new single) 6. Set It Off 7. Shadow On The Sun 8. I Am The Highway 9. Exploder 10. Hypnotize 11. Bring Em Back Alive 12. Light My Way 13. Getaway Car 14. The Last Remaining Light Cochise is fast paced and loud. Chris Cornell tests his vocal limits to the extreme here! If you loved this single, then the album will not disappoint you.
Show Me How To Live is just outstanding. The lyrics are clever, playing on the idea of God and the divine creator.... fantastic!
Gasoline is telling the story of a person who is obsessed with flame (pyromaniac) and is on the verge (or who already has) of commiting arson. Very emotional, and again very loud!
What You Are is not as good as the previous tracks, and could perhaps have been the first track of the album. It is reasonably good, but the lyrics tend to be repeated over and over.
Like A Stone is the single that does it for me. the lyrics are strong, the attitude is more mellow and the pace is slowed down. The album certainly reaches an equilibrium here, and Chris Cornell has produced a very imaginitive and successful song.
Set It Off has a very close, well thought out rhyme scheme, which appeals to me strongly and the beat fits perfectly. Again, Chris Cornell has got it just right, his vocal talent continues to impress me.
Shadow On The Sun goes back to be being a little loud, but it does become more melodic in parts, allwoing you to get lost in the music and sing your heart out, usually in front of family members!
I Am The Highway, is similar to Like A Stone, as the pace is slowed down once again, allowing the listener to breathe and get some soothing, melodic music on their ears once more. Again, clever lyrics and great music to back it up.
Exploder is not as impressive as the rest, and the album seems to go downhill from here. It is still good, but they have left the weakest part of the album till the end. There is a unique sound, produced by the guitar, and the lyrics are pretty strong, but it lacks originality.
Hypnotize, this song can be viewed differently by everyone. I personally love it. It's upbeat, the beat is a little quicker and the music is much quieter.
Bring 'Em Back Alive is letting on to you that the album is coming to a conclusion, and is again, a strong track not to ignore.
Light My Way could be improved greatly. The lyrics are very short, as is the song. It is still well structured, clever and masterful in the music/singing department, but it could be lengthened with a little imagination.
Getaway Car is very emotional, quiet and slow. Not one you would play at a party as it's not very upbeat!
The Last Remaining Light is my least favourite. The album begins to drag on and this song is quite frankly just lenghtening it just for the sake of making up the album time. It really does not finish the album on a good note!
Overall, if you need a new album, and you want something that is poetic, imaginitive, powerful and yet easy on the ears, try this on for size! Chris Cornell has the best voice in rock at this period of time, and the whole album reflects this.
