One of the things which disappointed me about the first Austin Powers film was that the soundtrack was disappointing. They have made up for that second time around, and in a big way. Furthermore the tracks fit in with the 60s feel of the film too.
Throw in new tracks by the likes of Madonna and REM and you already have the basis for a good soundtrack. Add in the likes of Lenny Kravitz and Elvis Costello and you’re set for a blockbuster, and that’s even before you get to Dr. Evil’s version of Will Smith’s “The Two of Us”, a side-splitting proclamation of his love for his clone Mini Me.
My only complaint would be the presence of Mel G/Scary Spice on the soundtrack. She is good at creating hype, but in my mind that is about it. She has a poor singing voice, and her cover of Cameo’s “Word Up” is definitely the weak point on the album for me. Still, don’t let that put you off as the album is still well worth getting.
