Advantages: Great music by a guitar maestro Disadvantages: Jimi left us way too soon
...performance, and his guitar playing was like nothing I'd ever heard in my young life. I'll never forget it.
Are You Experienced? was the debut album of JimiHendrix, and it's exceptional in a lot of ways. It was recorded over a period of just a few days, and it was produced by Chas Chandler, bass player for The Animals, and at the time, an aspiring producer. Many of the tracks were recorded "live" in the studio, which accounts for the concert feel that this album has. Another element of Are You Experienced? is the free-form structure of some of the songs. Mitch Mitchell explained it this way: "When we go into the studio we never rehearse anything, we never knew what we were going to do in advance. When it came to the rhythmic structure, everything was left up to me and Noel. Jimi would say to Noel 'this is the way the song goes...

Advantages: A compilation of great songs from a great musician Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
..., as well as "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Drifter's Escape", but this one is easily most remembered by many, specifically due to it's commersial success.
After this, "Stone Free" follows - a very upbeat track with yet another solo - well, I think they go without saying now, so I'll try and limit the mentioning of them!! "Crosstown Traffic" follows this track and personally I feel it upstages the previous track. The first may have been upbeat, but the rythym and tempo of CT is one of Hendrix's best, simple as.
Other classics delivered on this disc include "If 6 was 9" - very much a jamming session kind of track - very little structure, sure pure adrenaline. "Foxy Lady" - This jazzy song is, according to the booklet, "About the only happy song I have written" - obviously not my words, Jimi's words to be precise! Listening to this, you'd have...

Advantages: Musical genius, Guitar playing legend Disadvantages: none whatsoever, no weak links
...was only 28, he died after taking sleeping tablets to try and get himself some much needed sleep before a hectic schedule in the U.S. JimiHendrix lived hard and died because of it. The tragic thing was that only 4 complete albums were made and undoubtedly Jimi's best work was still to come, he still hadn't decided where his destiny was which explains the frictions which were always simmering in the background. 34 years on and his music still stands out today and has lasted the course of time, there is no mistaking JimiHendrix was a genius. It amazes me how many geniuses die young (Jeff Buckley and Jim Morrison also spring to mind).
So anyway, back to this album 'The Ultimate Experience' which is a collection of all Hendrix's best work during his all too short heyday. There are 18 studio tracks and 2 live tracks on the album and undoubtedly...
