Advantages: Could find a bargain Disadvantages: What you see is what they have.
Comet have a Clearance store at a retail park close to me ( its right next to Wembley Stadium actually).
There are no elaborate displays, none of the usual inviting colour schemes or layouts, it just looks like an abandoned shop thats being used to clear stock which is basically what it is, just rows of appliances divided up into washing machines, cookers, dishwashers, dryers etc and a section for TVs and other entertainment goods.
The products they sell are shop soiled, returns, refurbished and cosmetically damaged in some way. Each item has a sticker telling you what the problem is and everything you buy comes with a full 12 month guarantee.
I know these are uncertain times and a 12 month guarantee is only worth anything as long as Comet stay in business, but its no different to the 12 month guarantee that comes with a full ...

Advantages: Cheap, good range Disadvantages: They lie!
Over the Christmas period our fridge freezer broke down. Against our better judgement, and only because we felt we really needed refrigeration with 2 babies in the house, we ventured out into the post-Christmas sales. We found a great model (which I'll review in a few months time!) in Comet. I will say, it was a great price, at only £499 for an LG all-singing-all-dancing USA-style unit. But, actually buying the thing was not easy as the store was heaving. Eventually my husband and myself managed to tackle a passing assistant and pin him in a corner where he couldn't escape!
The assistant SEEMED very helpful. We pointed out the model we wanted and he looked on the computer system to see when it could be delivered, and most importantly, plumbed in, since it had an ice-maker/dispenser. We pointed out that (a) we had never had a plumbed ...

Advantages: Cheap, efficient, helpful. Disadvantages: Small range, not enough delivery staff.
I had not visited Comet for some years, mainly as I thought they were a bit 2nd rate, this seemed to be confirmed by reviews I have read here on Ciao and elsewhere. However, when our washer broke we decided to give Comet a try.
There is a local store which has ample parking and is situated on a small industrial estate, so that was helpful for a start. We visited on Good Friday, and were pleasantly surprised at both the easy layout of the shop, and the number of staff working.
The products we wanted to look at just happened to be the first display in the shop, and all the washing machines were displayed with their energy ratings, cost and whether or not they were currently in stock.
After going to the counter and asking for some assistance, within seconds a really helpful guy appeared and spent some time not only explaining ...

Album Notes
Their third proper full-length and second album for Sub Pop, 2006's AVATAR is the most expansive and sonically varied release yet from Bay Area acid-rock combo Comets on Fire; it's also their most blatantly classic rock-inspired effort as well. Acting as something of a punk-rock auxiliary to the so-called "freak folk" movement of the early 2000s, Comets on Fire are not without certain obvious Summer of Love trappings, and the shuffling, near-jazzy noodlings that introduce many of the songs here sound tailor-made for the Fillmore West. While the band is still capable of scorching moments ("Holy Teeth" is a start-to-finish space rock juggernaut), they emerge from a more nuanced musical framework, making for a decidedly groovier trip through the rock-&-roll spaceways.
Album Reviews
Spin (p.100) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he local color includes viscous head-trip organ ooze, frenetic noise-jazz drums, even languid bluesy interludes, all pushing the music toward a climax..." Q (p.107) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[This album] keeps their bluesy freak-out in check and gives them melodic ballast. It's fantastic stuff." Uncut (p.96) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] 46-minute of synapse-frying, virtuoso intensity....It's a record dense with allusions." Alternative Press (p.214) - "The band really start to bare their fangs on tracks that growl with animal instinct....AVATAR is further proof that Comets On Fire are one of the most relevant bands of their decade."
