Advantages: Fun songs, great cast

...be seen in the UK, Avenue Q is weird, wonderful, tuneful and more than a little rude. Not for prudes or children, the cast recording reflects the musical in every way. One of my favourite CDs, it's not for everyone. Are you one of the people it is for? You'll have to read on to find out... Although there is a plot (albeit an episodic one), including a love triangle, which runs through the show, parts of it are inspired by the type of sketch and song that can be seen on Sesame Street, only instead of teaching numbers, colours and letters, we get taught about the word 'Schadenfreude'. ...well, so here goes. Avenue Q tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed graduate who enters the 'real world' (in this case, New York), full of optimism and little cash. With a tiny bank account, he can only afford to move into Avenue Q, and he soon discovers that the 'real world' is nothing at all like what he had imagined. Avenue Q is one of the most thought-through yet simple musicals. It's music and lyrics, although not to the taste of everyone, is side-splitting and thruely comical and is represented wonderfully in this broardway album. i was one of the first to see the show in the westend, following previews, after the show had come over from broadway and i was in fits of laughter and every moment and at the end a well deserved standing ovation was heard.
