I first became aware of Avenue Q, after seeing them perform in the Royal Variety Performance. I found it so funny and entertaining, and I loved the concept of the whole show. So I became quite desperate to go and watch it, but unfortunately no one else was as interested as me in watching it. Luckily for me, I found this soundtrack, and I’m grateful I did. It kept me entertained for months, but a drawback was that, because I hadn’t seen the whole ... ...on this CD are:

Advantages: THE FUNIEST MUSIC EVER! Disadvantages: RUDE UNSUITABILITY
...AvenueQ is one of the most thought-through yet simple musicals. It's music and lyrics, although not to the taste of everyone, is side-splitting and thruely comical and is represented wonderfully in this broardway album. i was one of the first to see the show in the westend, following previews, after the show had come over from broadway and i was in fits of laughter and every moment and at the end a well deserved standing ovation was heard. After hearing the music in the show i knew that i had to have the album and i'm really glad i did! i can appreciate that some people would be offended by the nature and lyrics of the song, as it just about picks faults in everyone, but i believe that taken with a pinch of salt that this show and soundtrack are truely histerical and memorable!...

Advantages: Hilarious songs and story line Disadvantages: Small theatre
..., moves out of home and looks to start life on his own. You are greeted with the first song, "It Sucks to be Me" which also introduced the rest of the cast - Brian, Christmas Eve, Nicky, Rod, Kate Monsters, Trekkie Monster and Gary Coleman. In some cases you can really see what the writers were trying to parody - Nicky and Rod are the equivalent of Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street and Trekkie Monster seems to be a mick-take of the Cookie Monster. Each has their own life and you see how they fit into AvenueQ.
An interesting addition to the theatre experience is the addition of two televisions that descend and ascend whenever there is something to be shown on them. This definitely adds to the Sesame Street-esque experience when you're greeted with an introduction to the musical with something that was blatantly ripped off from the Sesame...

Advantages: So funny, you'll get belly cramps Disadvantages: Not for the prudish!
...It's hard to review the CD without reviewing the musical as well, so here goes.
AvenueQ tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed graduate who enters the 'real world' (in this case, New York), full of optimism and little cash. With a tiny bank account, he can only afford to move into AvenueQ, and he soon discovers that the 'real world' is nothing at all like what he had imagined. But he gets much support from his friendly, problems-ladened neighbours.
There's Kate Monster, a kindergarten teaching assistant who's pretty, kind, smart and has a gigantic heart - but wonders then, why doesn't she have a boyfriend? Trekkie Monster (no relations to Kate Monster...to think otherwise is racist!), a furry monster obsessed with porn on the Internet. Rod, a republican investment banker, who's confused with his sexuality. Nikky, Rod's roommate...
