Jimi Hendrix's second album with the experience, released in the early part of 1968 is often overlooked in favour of 'Are you experienced?' and 'Electric ladyland'. Here though we have the greatest course in format writing. Throughout the making of this album producer Chas Chandler stongly encouraged Mr.Hendrix to adhere to a rigid pop structure. Only three of the songs go over the three minute radio limit in place at that time.So whilst maintaining strict discipline throughout Hendrix manages to craft 13 songs each one different, each one either lyrically beautiful (castles made of sand), musically stunning (Spanish Castle Magic) or just truly immortal (Little wing). For me this is his best album as he manages to fit in a little bit of each of his skills without overdosing. Classic. Buy it now whoever you are. Go on. Off you go.
