Philly native Beanie Sigel is not one of the best emcees. He rhymes with such a high degree of heartfelt intent that when he speaks, you listen. What he says, you believe with no questions asked, end of story. Throughout his career that has been the quintessence of Beanie Sigel, he has represented reality. While The Truth served as his raw street narrated introduction to the world, The Reason strayed away from his formula as he experimented with flows and rhymes. Nevertheless his painstaking current LP, The B. Coming, has Sigel coming full circle and turning in his most heartfelt introspective album to date. The impressive 15-track offering has Sigel rhyming with conviction in his voice. The caliber in which perhaps only a Scarface or Styles P can currently match up to. While, "Feel It In The Air" and "Lord Have Mercy" may have Beans cracking open the door to his life, the cinematic, but bona fide "Tales of A Hustler PT. 2" has Beans kicking in the door and laying it all out on the table. The heat doesn't stop there. Collabo cuts like "One Shot Deal" with Redman plays raw, while "Gotta Have It" with Peedi Peedi and Twista is catchy and consistent. However, aside from the two bonus cuts ("It's On" ft. Jay-Z and "Wanted" ft. Cam'ron), probably the most effective collabo cut on the album is "Flatline" featuring Peedi Crack. The feverish Philly track produced by Boola for Boola Music (who has a stellar outing on the LP) is run-and-gun all the way with Peedi striking first, then Sigel with his verse, chorus, another Sigel verse, then Peedi once again.
The grown and sexy Neptunes track, "Don't Stop" featuring Snoop Dogg is thrown in for good measure to put a bounce into the album and appeal to mainstream hip-hop fans across the board.
There are hardly any flaws on The B. Coming. If anything, a Green Lantern track done over the Anthony Hamilton "Coming Where From I'm From" beat would have fit well on this project just because Beans discusses life behind bars in an up-close manner. However, with that aside, The B. Coming has to be considered with arguably the best album of the year thus far. Sigel's rhymes are so gripping that they feel like they're coming through the speakers to touch you.
Despite being preoccupied with legal issues with this album, Beanie Sigel not only remains the most forthright no-nonsense rhyme spitter in the game, but he also proves he belongs in hip-hop's current elite class. The B. Coming is a near classic that any hip-hop head has got to respect.
