Advantages: Helps a lot on babies with colic/ gas problems Disadvantages: May be a little expensive for some mothers
My daughter was having colic since she was about 3 weeks old. I tried everything from doctor's medication to Infacol. Her cries and the look of pain in her face just break my heart over and over again.
One of those evening when she was having a bad colic and crying non-stop, it hit me that I should consider the anti-colic bottles that i saw in the store. I grab my wallet and hail the next taxi to the nearest store.
Expensive? Yes! Worth it? Very much YES! i"ve never turn back to other bottles now that she's on Dr Brown's. And I never will again. She is a happy baby now with the difference almost can be notice immediately. All the parts to set the bottle together is a little hassle especially if you are in a hurry but otherwise, Dr Brown's bottles are miracle. Mixing of the formula is also easy by the swirling motion of the bottles ...
Advantages: No air escapes via the teat AT ALL! fantastic Disadvantages: Leakes when liquid is to hot
i decided straight away Dr Browns would be my bottles of choice.
They where a little expensive costing £46 for 6 bottles but in fairness the price has dropped a little and is around the same as other leading brands these days.
How they work~
The Dr Brown bottles are unique and unlike almost all other bottles on the market (i think Tommie Tippie have recently done a similar idea) they have a tube that sits inside the bottle and connects to a brown stopper that you find at the neck of the bottle, when filled with milk and used to feed the bottle is tipped into feeding position and the air trapped in the teat travels out to the bottom of the tube, so it acts as a way for air to escape back into the bottom of the bottle and not the teat so your baby will not be sucking air that of course causes wind and sometimes colic.
They really are ...
Advantages: great for wind and colic Disadvantages: leak, scratch and to many parts to it
in my experience with dr browns bottles they are great for preventing wind and colic but they have a few down sides so are they worth the extra money are that the bottles leak if not upright and the milk comes up the tube and out of the bottles as you warm it up they get scratched easy and you can only steralise 2 bottles at a time as there are so many parts to each bottle. the bottles are quite wide so you cant fit 2 in a double thermal bag and the level one teats got blocked up had to swap to level two earlier than reccommended. if i had to buy baby bottles again i would look for another product that helps with wind and colic. ...
