Advantages: Very good price, brilliant quality of performance and recording Disadvantages: None to note
...There are moments in 'TheArt of Fugue' that are much more valuable than just its incredible virtuosity. There are moments that surpass everything else that Bach wrote. I can't think of anything that moves me more deeply than the last fugue, the unfinished fugue. Not just because of all the emotional, sentimental views that we inevitably bring to it, not because we know that he died while half way through a bar. But because that last fugue has a sense of peace, that even for Bach, seems completely overwhelming.
It's a still a serious world, deserted and rigid and without colour and without light and without motion. This piece reaches hundreds of years into the future.
It creates an impression of an infinitely expanding universe.
He literally signs his own name - by using the notes Bb A C B (H) for the theme - to the work he...

Advantages: Romantic orchestral music Disadvantages: Only 1 hour - eat quickly for a romantic dinner
...example of the exquisite music composed by Bach. Each of three concertos on the album complies with the standard concerto form favored by Bach of three contrasting movements – fast, slow, fast.
The first piece, Concerto in E minor, has a fast opening movement in which the solo violin, played by Anne-Sophie Mutter, flirts with the larger orchestral group with an infectious cheerfulness. The second movement is quieter, slower and more reflective where the violin sings out day-dreamily. The piece ends with a fast, happy dance-like movement.
Salvatore Accardo joins Anne-Sophie Mutter for the second piece, Concerto for two violins in D minor. This is probably the best known of Bach’s concertos. In the opening Vivace (lively) movement, the two soloists converse together in a quasi fugue. The first violin making a statement answered by...

Advantages: If you like Bach, the piano or jazz you'll like it Disadvantages: Just the one tune that I don't care for
...Many Jazz musicians train their fingers by playing Bach in various styles and at various speeds - I played Bach not only for the training but because I liked the harmonies, chord changes and arpeggios. Jacques Loussier has taken playing Bach to an art form. I like this album only and NOT volume 2.
The original Play Bach album contains most of bach's better known works such as His Toccata and Fugue, also the 1st and 2nd preludes and the 1st and 2nd fugues, hair on a G string (joke) and Jesu joy of man's desiring.
This really is a cracking album with the trio (including bass and drums) really jazzing up bach and playing some pieces with phenominal speed, cool showmanship and originality. It's a swinging, foot tapping, jazz party!
In my opinion there is only one song on this album that isn't brilliant and that is Jesu joy of man...
