I purchased this wonderful album by westlife today. Its release date in Ireland is today the 2nd of November and in the UK it is the 5th of November. It is the 9th studio album from the lads and if there is any justice it will be at number one.
With the exception of the cover version of Michael Buble's "Home" the rest of the album is all new and original music. This album holds a mixture of ballads and up tempo songs. It takes us back to the start of Westlife.
The Album: 1) Home - Brilliant version of the Michael Buble classic. The mixture of Harmonies between Mark and Shane is unbelievable. The emotion they show in this song is unreal and brings a tear to your eye when you are away from home and you really want to go back.
2) Us Against the World starts of with Nicky singing "Us Against the World" over and over again but it gains tempo throughout the song. Its about a couple who stick together and fight against the world. Its a really nice song and the lyrics are brilliant
3)Something right - its a really nice song. Its another love song and the lyrics again are really nice and sweet
4) I'm already there - again like the previous 3 songs its a really nice track with the majority of the song sung by mark and shane and what I like about this song is that Kian and Nicky actually sing in this as well compared to the first 3 tracks. Love the music to this song.
5)When I am with you - this is a more upbeat track compared to the first 4 songs with a nice mixture of harmonies between Shane and Mark. Another nice love song for all those romantic nights in ;)
6) Have you ever - this song starts off with the 4 lads singing altogether. It starts of real slow jt picks up more tempo during the song. Again the lyrics are beautiful. Its a real "lovey dovey" song.
7)Its You - its a nice ballad but its my least favourite song of the album.
8)Catch my breath - definitely one of my contenders for my favourite song on the album. The music, the lyrics, the vocals are all just outstanding and out of this world. Its an up tempo ballad song.
9)The easy way - with the music in this song its one of those where you can really dance too. Nicky and Kian sing more in this song which too be honest doesnt really happen to much in this album.
10) I do - its a real slow song. I love the lyrics for this song.
11)Pictures in my head - another of my contenders for best song on the album. Its really upbeat, love the vocals and the lyrics. The music is really nice and the lyrics are really catchy that after listening to it 2 or 3 times you are able to sing along to it. Its well worth it.
12)You must have had a broken heart - its another slow ballad. the music is nice. The vocals like the rest of the album are brilliant. its a lovely song and it really fits to the rest of the album -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------
I watched an interview with the lads discussing this album and what they thought about the choice of songs and their thoughts about the originality of most of the songs. I think it was Kian who said that with trying to get the album out they were looking for lots of original material to have on this album and with a couple of the tracks they werent sure about , but they decided to put them on the album anyway.
My verdict: Its the 9th studio album from the lads and I have to say I have been a fan right from the start. I loved all their albums like Face to Face and the Love Album but with back home I really love its originality. Its a change from the cover versions. I know the covered Michael Buble's home but they did, as Louis Walsh would say "made it their own". I really am well impressed with it and in the 6 or 7 hours I have this album I think I have listened to it at least 4 times.
For all you westlife fans get this album. You wont be disappointed. It is really good.
