Album Reviews: Uncut (8/01, p.89) - "...The sound is clean and funk itchy-tight..."
Advantages: some compelling tracks. Disadvantages: A band disilillusioned by drugs
...complete this strutting anthem. Not in the least bit dated, we are still finding joy in those thumping drums, and the 'yeah, yeah, yeah, woo!' s' making it a continuous favourite on a pub jukebox.
Our second track is 'Sway,' and not unlike the hit that came two years later titled, 'Angie,' although perhaps somewhat brighter sounding. A drunken blues track with a hint of a twang of southern soul, Jaggers voice in its half cut state doesn't fail to deliver the right emotion into such droning songs. There is a hint of a mixed drum beat, slightly out of time, but it pays homage to the messy backingtrack including a slide guitar interval. This track would have been at home on a Cream album but it falls short of a polished Eric Clapton song as it gathers too many wails and whines in its wake. There is a noted right handed shuffle across the top...

Advantages: Five good tracks. Disadvantages: Ten mediocre or weak tracks.
...Mind, Body & Soul is Joss Stone's 2nd album. From reading a little about this album she apparently saw it more as 'hers' than the first album 'Soul sessions'. This is evident in the lyrics of the first song 'Right to be wrong' where she sings "I've got a right to be wrong, my mistakes will make me strong", and goes on to change that second line in one verse with "Gotta sing my own song".
This is altogether a rather more mature offering than her first album, not that this means it is better. I certainly loved the use of vocals on the first album and the retro soul style.
Anyway the notoriously difficult second album, does she cut it?
Track 1. Right to be wrong.
Lyrically great if you are 30 and been beholden to a record company for years, or a partner, but c'mon, she was one year on from a platinum selling CD, and moaning about...

Advantages: Vocals, music, lyrics Disadvantages: Hard to find, not to everyones taste (unlucky them)
...), and seems to be almost as perfect at picking a note as Buckley's was in his heyday.
What is "Feather and Stone"?
"Feather and Stone" was the 2004 (yes my blurb was wrong even after Tom himself said it was right...) debut album by Tom Baxter, released on Sony records. It was re-released a few months later with added album details but sadly no extra songs (yes sadly). The album did achieve some interntional acclaim, mainly from the journaslists as opposed to commercial acclaim. It also spawned 2 singles "This Boy" and "My Declaration"
What might we recognise from Feather and Stone?
To be honest, it's unlikely you'll recognise any of the tracks, despite the two singles getting some radio back on national radio (BBC2) when the album was released.
Anything else we should know?
Apart from the recent release of "SKYBOUND"? Well this album...
