For those of us who were fortunate enough to have grown up in the 1960s there were other giants. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin… the list goes on. What we didn’t know then is how spoilt we were. We thought that this standard of song writing and musical innovation was quite normal.

THE CONCEPT
Tommy was born at the end of a war during which his father went missing. Suddenly Captain Walker returns home to find his wife with another man. In a fit of rage the lover is killed in front of the boy. The shock of this scene and the insistence that he saw and heard nothing, drives Tommy into himself and he becomes deaf dumb and blind. He remains oblivious to the evils of the world who are portrayed by characters that he comes into contact with.
His parents try in vain a variety of cures. Tommy only finds contentment staring into a mirror and playing pinball. In frustration his mother finally smashes the mirror and Tommy is released. His enlightenment causes him to believe that he has become the new Messiah...

Advantages: Catchy tunes, superb instrumental style, great narrative Disadvantages: DVD-Audio format restricts transfer to MP3 players
...Difficult Kind' and 'Mississippi'. Overall, the quality is much, much better, and will compliment any sound system setup.
The only drawback about DVD-Audio format is its copy protection. This basically means that if you want to rip songs to your computer, or convert into mp3 format for Audio player playback, you will be disappointed. Manufacturers are basically saying 'we give you better quality, use it legally.'. While this may be understandable, it is quite a drawback for fans that want to carry high-quality material with them at all times. In 2005, software developers created a way to decrypt the protection, but this does involve patching your media players illegally - don't be naughty... It's up to you if you consider buying the standard CD-Audio, which is perfectly good quality in it's own right.
