There is much to be said about the wonderful new talent that is James Blunt. I bought this album around six weeks ago, but had heard much of it in my friends car while racing around to finish my wedding plans back in july. I purchased it from woolworths for a cool £9.77 was it money well spent, You bet your ass it was.
This album is aimed at the adult side of the market as it has a warning on the cd front and back, That it contains lyrics of an adult nature. This album only came out this year so has'nt been around all that long. James is a brilliant and talented writer with excellent vocals, the acoustics on the album are out of this world.
I am going to take you through each track and give you an insite into my thoughts and feelings of this album.
Track 1. High. I love this track easy to listen to and some strong vocals from James this song was written by James & R.Ross. (J.Blunt, guitars, keyboard, marimba,vocals. M Tarantino lead guitar. Mr Nau wurlitzer. S Krivstov bass. C Paxon drums.)
Track 2. You're Beautiful. A personal favorite of mine and something I had played when I got married. James wrote this about seeing an ex girlfriend with her new fella. It has been played to death but you still can't get away from the fact its exceptional. This song was written by J. Blunt, S.Skarbek & A. Ghost. (J. Blunt acoustic guitar, vocals. Mr Nau piano. M. Tarantino electric guitar. S.Kristov bass. C.Paxon drums, strings are by E. Gorfain and The Section).
Track 3. Wisemen. Love this track easy to sing along to brilliant guitar rifts in this particular song. This song was written by J.Blunt, J.Hogarth, S.Skarbek. (J.Blunt classical guitar, Rhodes, organ, vocals. J.Hogarth acoustic guitar, keyboards. S.Skarbeck mid 8 Rhodes. A. Ghost backing vocals. Gumby electric guitar. Mr Nau Wurlitzer, Hammomnd. S.Kristov bass. C.Paxon drums).
Track 4. Goodbye My Lover. A weepy one this I thought with some very powerful songwriting and after all it has been voted the most used funeral song if this gives you help as too how sad the track is. This was written by James with additional music by Skarbek. (J.Blunt piano, 12 string, Rhodes, organ, vocals. Mr Nau sustain guitar. M.Chait sample guitar. C.Paxon drum, strings are by E.Gorfain and The Section).
Track 5. Tears And Rain. This I also liked must admit not as much as the previous tracks.It has good lyrics justnot keen on the music in the background. This was written by J.Blunt & G.Chambers. (J.Blunt Wurlitzer, guitars, piano, church organ, vocals. G.Chambers guitar feedback. Mr Nau Hammond. S.Krivstov bass. C.Paxon drums. Strings are by E.Gortain and The Section).
Track 6. Out Of My Mind. This is a softer track I felt James voice is excellent as ever, And this track proves how versitile he is as a new artist. This track is written by James only so shows how talented a writer he is. (J.Blunt Wurlizer, pump organ, guitars, vocals. Mr Nau. Hammond. S.Krivstov bass. C.Paxon drums. Backing Vocals are by Blunt,Nau,Paxon,Krivstov,Gumby,Rothrock).
Track 7. So Long Jimmy. This is a great track and is written about a friend of James's that died. Nicely wrote and the background music and guitars is fantastic. This track was written by Jimmy Blunt & Jimmy Hogarth. (J.Blunt. Wurlitzer, acoustic guitar, vocals. "Leroy" Tarantino mississippi guitar. Mr Nau. Hammond. M.Chait electric guitar. "Gumby" Goodwin slide guitar solo. S.Krivstov bass. C.Paxon drums).
Track 8. Billy. Yet again strong powerful lyrics and a great urban guitar sound. Not one of my personal fav's but you can still the broadness of his talant. This track is written by J.Blunt, A.Ghost and S.Skarbek. (J.Blunt grand piano, vocals. M.Chait guitar. Mr Nau Wurlitzer, Hammond, tack piano. W.Vincent bass. C.Paxon drums).
Track 9. Cry. This is another quite somber track but beautifully written and well performed again this is another of James work and soley written by him. With additional written music by S.Skarbek. (J.Blunt guitars, organ, Mellotron, vocals. The Producer slide guitar. Mr Nau Wurlitzer. S.Kristov bass. C.Paxon drums).
Track 10. No Bravery. Another offering of James again on the somber side. Powerful lyrics and quite thought provoking music is really good. This is written by James with additional music by Skarbek. (J.Blunt LG, piano, vocals. Col. L. Perry guitar. Pte. P. lll bass. Cpl. B. McCloud drums).
My feelings on this album are no music collection should be without this amazing album. You get a personal warmth to the songs and they mean something personal to those who listen to it. The cover is easily reconisable in your music store and stands out well, the cover design was done by salvador designs and well done its brilliant. Artwork thoughout the book is original and fits the cd well. My opinion is if you don't have this album your missing out on some fantastic talent, and for under a tenner its money well spent.
