Back to Black is Amy Winehouse's second album and was released in October 2006, but record sales have been flying very high ever since it's release.
Amy is a London Based singer, whose voice is both jazzy and powerful, but whose songs are blunt and retell her stories of love and loss.
This album has a very Soul feel to it, and when I bought this album, I had only heard two of her songs, but after listening to the album once, I enjoyed every single song in the album.

I find Amy Winehouse's music very addictive, and as the album only has 1 Disk and it only contains 11 songs I found myself wanting to hear more!!

Some of the lyrics in the song are so honest that they can be seen as witty, and Amy Winehouse is very brash in the way that she portrays herself in her music. One of her songs is titled 'You know I'm no good', in this she talks about being unfaithful, but she tells the story in an unapologetic and brash manor which makes her seem neither hateful or hated.

I think that what made me so interested in buying this CD and listening to the music that it contained, was Amy's very real struggle in the real world. Amy is often in the papers for being 'anorexic', 'on drugs' an 'alcoholic', 'party animal' 'struggling in her relationship life' etc. Due to Amy Winehouse's very real issues, I find it almost interesting and realistic listening to her music. This artist is really one who's 'been the and done that' and is completely unashamed to admit it.

In each one of the songs in the album, it is easy to tell that Amy's inspiration was her own life.

This album is totally enjoyable, the only neutral things I will say, is that, due to the songs being made so cleverly, some of the songs cannot be appreciated until you listen to them over and over again, and listen to the meanings of every lyric. By doing this you will find some not only humorous but some also very clever lyrics which offer both originality and also a sense of sexuality.

The quality of the music on the album is crystal clear and the music chosen suits the lyrics provided perfectly.
The cover of the disk is completely in theme. Amy Winehouse is on the cover just simply sitting on a stall, as herself, with a basically blank background, I believe this runs alongside the theme of her being completely blank, blunt and honest in her music.

This album is brilliant and unique, and therefore it is hard to make a comparison between other artists and albums released at a similar time.
Amy Winehouse has created her on genre in music with this terrific album, and I believe this album is one of the greatest thing that music contributed in 2006.
