I can remember the first time i heard Amy Winehouse sing, i thought wow now theres a good voice. I can remeber the even bigger shock when i saw her on TV she looked nothing like i would have imagined!
Sadly she has been in the papers alot recently for things other than her records, this made me decide to remind everybody of one extremely good aspect about her - her voice.
Back to Black is Amy's second album and was released last year. There are many tracks on there that most people should have heard of. If you havent where on earth have you been hiding for the last year?
This CD is well worth a listen, the tracks are catchy and amy's voice is simple amazing.
Track 1 - Back To Black This is the first track to be released from the album of the same name in April 2006. This song has a really catcy beat to it, it has a large variety of different instuments in it which combine to give it a really good tune. I dont think you will really appreciate this song until you sit down and listen to it - especially the lyrics. The lyrics seem to get overshadowed by the great music, buut it isnt just the chorus that is catchy. This is one of those soongs you can listen to in the morning on the way to work and you will probably still be humming it at lunch. I guess this song is the title track for a reason.
Track 2 - He Can Only Hold
Her Lovely fresh summer beat to start this song. Its a type of song i can imagine playing in my car during the summer with the windows down. That alone is enough to love it, especially with the dull summer we have had. Very different to the previous track it is much more upbeat. Amy also seems to vary her voice in this song alot more which allows you to realise her true talent.
Track 3 - Just Friends This song has a lovely reggae feel to it. The background beat is refreshing and lively, the sort of thing that makes me want to get up and dance (or at least sway). It maintains this throughout the song, but is broken up slightly by the trumpets and drums in the middle which help restore your intrest in the song. Definetly not the best song on the album, but still OK.
Track 4 - Love is a Losing Game When listening to this song through headphones , it sounds although Amy is singing through a traffic cone. I personally hate the effects they have put on this song and it really irritates me. The lyrics themself are still really good though and i think most people can relate to them at certain times. However i still cant get my head round the stupid echo they have put on her voice - why do record companys think this will help sell the record? Annoying.
Track 5 - Me and Mrs Jones (Fuckerry) Love this song. Amy's voice is finally normal again and back to its strong powerful self. Lovely little song, really does display Amy's talent. The music is very catchy as well - the type of one that makes me wish i could play an instrument and join in. Love it
Track 6 - Rehab A shame really that this song has come back to haunt her. After her recent antics it seems she should have actually have ignored her own advice. This song is probably the most famous of all the songs on the album. Lovely beat, great variety in Amy's voice is a lovely catchy song which is compulsary for everybody to sing along to. I think its funny when its playing on the radio while you stuck in a traffic jam, and for a brief second the person in the car next to you loses themselves and truely believes they are a pop star. Really great song thats very addictive , a lovely pick me up song to sing along to when your having a down day.
Track 7 - Some Unholy War Not one of my faviurite tracks but nevertheless it is still a good song. Nice added singing courtesy of her backing singers which adds to the great music to provide a good song. I personally get bored half way through (is one of them songs that if it turns up on my itunes when its on shuffle i just skip) but you never know you might really enjoy it.
Track 8 - My Tears Dry On My Own This is defintely one of my favourute tracks featuring on the Album. Can get embarrasing when i sing to it in the shower not realising people are in. So So So catchy, great chorus and verses. Lovely lyrics and really catchy beat., Perfect song i really do love it. For certain it is one of the best tracks featured on this CD.
Track 9 - Wake Up Alone Long instrumental which can sound quite depressing. However Amy's voice is just as good as usual (when is it not to be fair though) An OK song mediocre. Would be very boring without the addition of the background singers. However i still think Amy Winehouse has a voice you could listen to and enjoy even if it had not music. True Talent
Track 10 - You Know Im No Good This is song of the album that you must have heard of. The lyrics are great, really good. Music is lovely and catchy , beat will have you swaying and you probably wont even notice. One of the tracks that can turn you green with envy and jealousy, if only we all had her voice. A Great track that if you havent listened to you really should.
Overall the album is amazing. I wouldnt say there are any filler tracks (once that would never make a single but are included on the album to bump it up) and a great quality of music is maintained throughout the album. It is really worth owning, you can pick it up fairly cheaply and i would personally say whatever you pay for it it will probably be worth it. I think Amy Winehouse attracts to many people of many ages and doesnt attatch her self any certain cliche or agegroup, this proabably something that has contributed to her enourmous success greatly. Its an album an entire family can enjoy, you will probably find you like it no matter what genre of music you are normally intrested in. Her voice is refreshingly good, outstanding even.
If you already own this CD and enjoyed it can i point out that Amy also has another album that was released in 2003 that you may also enjoy called Frank.
Amys voice and talent is outstanding for someone of her age, i just hope that for the sake of the public and her fans she manages to sort out her personal problems and will get back into making great tunes.
If you have not heard this album yet, go get a listen it really is worth it.

Although my CD seems to have a totally different structure ("Rehab" is first, "Addicted" last on my version), you've given a great review of an album I still can't properly make up my mind on.
