something to do with the fact that sales of the first were overshadowed by a spousal abuse charge; unsurprisingly then, there isn't too much to distinguish this from the other one. Certain critics have commended Lionel for having spurned the whims of fashion and persisted with sentimental love songs like "Say You Say Me" and "Penny Lover", whatever the weather, and, listening to the tacky 1980s synths of the more upbeat "Running With The Night", it's hard to disagree. Lionel's obviously at his most comfortable with the power ballad--so much so that he has no idea when to exercise a little restraint. For all its baggage--the sickly video with that blind girl and its terrible lyrics--there's the chord structure to a good Charles Aznavour song trying to get out of "Hello", but it's drowning in syrup. Perhaps it's time for a reunion of the old band: the inclusion of "Sail On", "Three Times A Lady" and "Easy" (all Commodores songs)suggests as much.--Peter Paphides

A lot of people of my generation (I'm in my late teens) might laugh at some of my CD collection. However, it has always been my philosophy that if it is decent music, I’m not going to let any prejudices I might have get in the way of my musical taste. So, I have a most wonderful Lionel Richie album in my collection. And to hell with what people say!
I think my appreciation of Richie's music must stem, as with a lot of my older tastes, from my parents in some way, and of course, the radio listening of my youth. Of course, everyone knows the wonderful 'Hello', acclaimed as one of the great love songs of our time - and rightly so, with lines like "And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times", how could it be any other way? Other wonderful tracks include 'Running With The Night', 'Easy' and 'Stuck On You', but each and every track is every inch a classic.
I think the reason why I rate this album over other 'Best Of's, other than the fact that it has all my favourite tracks on it, is that it not only has the best of Lionel Richie, but the best of his time with the Commodores too, so we get 'Three Times A Lady' and 'Easy' too, and this makes the album even better than it was before. There's even the beautiful duet with Diana Ross on 'Endless Love'. It's a complete album in every way.
There's little more I can say about the album. Richie's vocal style is perfect, the instrumental work is superb, and the selection of tracks is astounding. What more could you ask for? This is a wonderful album - get it now!

...title in white letters. The back of the CD is gold in colour and again hasa picture of lionel the same as the front cover picture but from the knees up on this one. There is also the standard track list and credits.
The inside of the cover contains a great track list with all of the lyrics for each and every song. There is also some words from Lionel contained with him giving thanks to people for their support and help. Also there are song good ... ...this CD as it contains both solo tracks and also tracks from the Commodores. I purchased my copy from the supermarket for £5 but shop around as the price does vary from shop to shop.
The CD was produced in 1992 by Mowtown Records Company L.P.
I would highly recommend this for an easy listening CD. ...

Close your eyes and imagine the scene ,cold winters evening ,rain lashing against the window .The only 2 people in the house are you and your partner .The fire is burning ,the glasses of champagne are poured and the sheepskin rug is in front of the open fire.You flick through your cd collection to choose a suitable track befitting of the occasion.Limp biskit NO eminem NO and then you come across this album WOW just the job.

...of the mid tempo, laid back feel. In this song Lionel (first name terms!) makes his voice sound as if there's no effort involved (If only I could sing so effortless).
My other favourites are the classics "Easy" (really good for relaxing), "Hello" (which is on my answer machine and my friends give me a bit of stick for!) and of coarse "Three times a lady." I also love "Endless Love" with Diana Ross as it's a beautiful duet, with great lyrics, and ... ...some advert at the moment) I like this one so much because of the lyrics, the melody and again his voice.

This has to be one of the best albums in my cd collection. I was bought this for my 18th Birthday. A lot of my friends laughed at me when I received this and I thought the same as my mum and dad were the ones who love Lionel Richie. I played it a few times and before I knew it, I knew every word to every song. This is a song for every occasion. There isn't a moment that you can't listen to it. There is a song for every emotion. I've listened to this ... ...at all.

Advantages: Loads of brillliant, stand the test of time classics. Disadvantages: The odd song is slightly boring and repetitive.
...For those of you that may have read my other review of LionelRichie "Backtofront" you may remember that at the end I mentioned my that my CD had started skipping. Being such a huge Lionel fan I was really dissapointed at this so I decided to buy a different one "The definitive collection", as it is newer and has more tracks.
I bought this on ebay, so a few days later the cd came through the post and I couldn't wait to put it on.
With a Greatest hits CD you sort of know what to expect because you know the majority of the songs, however it still managed to attract me and I know that it's a classic that will be valued in my CD collection for years to come.
