TrilogyandThe Batman Trilogy. Those series both went on to fourth instalments, making the collections seem just shy of complete, whereas here at least you know you're getting the lot. And the first thing the disc does is make up for the absence of decent cues on the original 1985 album by giving us for the first time "Skateboard Chase", "Clocktower Pt. 1" and "Clocktower Pt. 2&Helicopter". This first suite sets a precedent by having a "Main Title" followed by one early sequence, and then the finale to the respective movie. Inevitably, this approach takes the listener through lots of heroic and grand statements of both the signature theme and Alan Silvestri's hugely enjoyableBack to the Futuremarch. In other words, it all gets a little repetitive. (The thing to remember while listening, however, is that whether you own all three original albums or not, this condensed highlights format makes for a far less repetitive experience than playing the full scores back to back.) Thankfully, the romantic elements of number three allow a change of pace, and that movie's Western music is enormously entertaining (this is the original soundtrack, whereas episodes one and two are new recordings). As an attractive bonus at the end of the album is the suite Silvestri arranged for Universal Studio's ride; along with John Debney's respectful conducting and a buoyant performance from the RSNO, this shows that plenty of TLC went into the album's make-up.--Paul Tonks

Advantages: All the themes, all superb Disadvantages: Not in chronological order
I bought this soundtrack shortly after getting the one for Part II and believe that this is the best one of the three. Alongside the familiar BTTF theme, we get the fantastic new Wild West theme, the enchanting love theme and the delicate and fragile theme for Doc introduced in the Main Title. There are 18 exceptional tracks on this CD and they really do show Silvestri at his best.
My only gripe with this CD is that the tracks aren't in chronological order. Still, the original order can be restored by programming your CD player or making MP3s of each track and playing them off your hard drive. The most important thing is that you have all the music and it is all superb.
Buy this CD if you like BackTo The Future because it really is a joy to listen to (especially in the correct order). ...
Advantages: All tracks from Alan Silvestri's magnificent score Disadvantages: None
I really love the BackTo The Future films and Alan Silvestri's music is an important part of this enjoyment. I bought this soundtrack on Import (from the US, I think) and am really glad I did. It consists entirely of Silvestri's score and doesn't disappoint (unlike the soundtrackto the original film). All the music from Part II is here, I think, and I really cannot fault it. The original theme is present throughout in different guises - sometimes with more urgency and menace, other times with a more sombre reflective tone - making it impossible not to picture each scene as you listen.
My two favourite tracks are: "The Future" which includes the simple but powerful 'De-de-de-de ching, de-de-de-de ching, de-de-de-de ching, de-de, der-der' theme first heard when the Libians arrive on the scene at Twin Pines Mall in BTTF1 ...
