but Grandmaster Flash was the first turntablist--the first DJ to play the wheels of steel like an instrument. Working with the first MC supergroup--the Furious Five, the Wu-Tang Clan of their day--Flash charted the course of hip-hop for years to come. This collection charts Flash's many highs, from "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel" to "Scorpio", "White Lines" to "The Message"; but at 37 tracks, there's plenty of room for Flash's lesser-known works, only some of which are of more than archival interest. Though Flash's hits can be found on any number of packages,Back to the Old Schoolputs them in a context that makes them all the more impressive.--Randy Silver

Advantages: Its nice to see Fatboy slim going back to his roots again Disadvantages: Like any album some of the tracks just seem like space fillers
...Fatboy Slim was great in the late 90's with his dance tracks and samples and silly loops, but that was then. Even the House music age is over, and Norman Cook has recognized this and has put together a great new collection of just plain music. The rhymes and singing of Lateef, Damon Albarn and Fatboy-alum Bootsy Collins fit right in with the hip-hop, laid-back feel of this album. My favorites include: "Don't Let The Man Get You Down" (featuring a little oldschool sampling and looping), "Wonderful Night" (with Lateef on Vocals), "Mi Bebe Masoquista" (Great beat), "North West Three" (good song to just chill to, much like the entire album), and "The Journey" (again with Lateef).
This album is great for Fatboy Slim fans looking for something different and who are ready to progress with the times. If you're looking for more "Rockafeller...

Advantages: Old school beats Disadvantages: Nothing!
...I think this album is great, really like the oldschool hip hop. A couple of tracks are quite self indulgent, but most are really good, the first track released (give me what you got) is one for the summer and Lost ones is definately worth checking out, even for people who aren't hardcore fans. The cover is like 3D so depending on whether you get a green or red case you get a different cover which is a nice bonus! I got it for about ten ponds at woolies, not that I would have minded paying a few quid more if i was at a record shop. In my opinion this is better than the blueprint albums but not quite as good as the black album....

Advantages: loud, you cant sit still Disadvantages: loud, you cant sit still
...This cd is fantastic. It brings rock (LINKIN PARK) and Hip Hop (JAY-Z) together brilliantly. You cant help but move to it. It is great for listening to in the car, although I should stress that it is not a good idea to listen to it at full volume outside of your childs school as the language is a bit harsh. But for pure unadulterated grown up listening it is great. My 15 year old daughter loves it as much as I do. I used to listen to some Hip-Hop as a teenager but my real love is for rock music. This cd reminded me about the joys of Hip-Hop without having to relinquish my love of rock. Awesome Cd. I hope it is the beginning of more collaborations of this kind....
