Now, although this review may be considered biast as i am a huge fan of Michael Jackson and everything that encapsulates his performance, music, voice and producing. I would like to give a review that would help his reputation and for people to enjoy classic songs that outweigh some of today's music. Most of today's music is overplayed and will not be heard in 20 years time unlike the timeless classics on this album and other Michael Jackson albums.
I recommend that you purchase all of Michael Jackson albums and not just bad as his musical style does alter through his long career, although every song has its generic elements of a fantastic Michael Jackson musical masterpiece:
"Bad" - Well known Michael Jackson track, known for its choreography in the music video. The track is funky and smooth yet well paced and groovy
"Way you make me feel" - Such a fantastic Michael Jackson song. Its use of electronic beats plus orchestral instruments such as the trumpet create a piece of music like no other! One of my favourites
"Speed demon" - A highlight of Michael Jackson's feature film 'Moonwalker', a catchy rythm and trademark MJ sounds
such as "Aaow"! This is another of my favourite tracks he has produced.
"Liberian girl" - A tropical blend of carrabean beats and western lyrics give the song a fantastic edge. Michael's voice is fantastic in this tune.
"Just good friends" - Well, a funky, fast ride with my two favourite artists of all time, Stevie Wonder and MJ. What a tune, i recommend this song to anyone wanted to sample the album before buying it.
"Another part of me" - Probably my highlight of the album. Soulful and funky, a fun tune to listen to and dance to. Such a great piece of music.
"Man in the Mirror" - A song that everyone knows, it makes you think, its compelling and above all a beatiful piece of music from MJ.
"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" - His slowest on the album, but not at all bad, its a great one to chill out to and it builds fantastically with added female vocals. It's Beautiful.
"Dirty Diana" - The most rock influenced song on the album but still encapsulates Michaels soulful voice and R'n'B routes.
"Smooth Criminal" - An all time favourite of mine and other fans. The song doesn't conform to anything that you have heard before, its mix of electro beats and funk/soul with a dirty rythm make the song a highlight of his career.
"Leave me alone" - The funkiest tune on the album by far. Every beat makes your body move with its fast pace. It's our first insight into the fact that the media were beginning to get at michael.
The remastered tracks are also great but Michael made the right choice back in the cutting room in 1987 by leaving them out. I was stunned to heard on the interviews that "Smooth Criminal" was nearly removed form the album until the last minute! Phew!
Michael's original voice, sound, performance and overall music is groundbreaking. You will never hear a sound as perfect as Michael's music.
The lyrics are written fantastically, with some thought provoking points, especially in "Man in the Mirror" with a video to accompany its point:
"I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you wanna make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change"
The mix of fast, slow, funky, rocky, soul, R'n'B are flawless as they sometimes mix into each other, especially in the song "Dirty Diana". It is Quincy Jones' producing on the album that has added to its consistency and mix of genres in each track.
I love all of Michael's albums, but if i had to chose between all of them, i would have to pick "Bad", it would take me years to actually make the final decision but "Bad" is so incredibley perfect it just cannot be unheard.
Michael has a gift of being above the competition, his songs are timeless classics that are played consistently against contempory music in Pubs, Bars and Clubs today and considering the songs age, nearly 20 years old...(Billie Jean, even older), the songs still sound as fresh and funky as they did two decades ago.
I love the cover, Michael looks good on this album, although some might disagree and that he looks "wierd". I don't care, its his music and talent that i buy, not his looks. He does look good in alot of music videos and "moonwalker" during this period though. The booklet also contains the lyrics to each song with some pictures from live performances and awards he has recieved. I don't personally need the lyrics, i know them all!
I would pay anything to keep this album alive and so value for money is excellent. If you do want to save a couple of quid, play.com do sell a double album of both "Bad/Dangerous" for about £10 so this is a bargain. They also sell all of his other albums in these double packages.
I recommend this to absolutely anyone who thinks that all Michael Jackson is, is a paedophile/pervert. It is his music that we love and buy, not his life...
10/10 - Michael keep it up! I look forward to Michael's album in 2007 also, i hope he goes back to the style of his albums, "Thriller", "Bad" and "Dangerous"

A great review, well written and detailed. I liked the run down of each song and the detail about the double packages, never heard of them being sold like that before
