Advantages: Quality slow songs Disadvantages: Lack of real rock n roll magic
...I bagged my copy of the new Oasis album on its day of release hoping that it would be another masterpiece in the vein of Definitely Maybe and What's the Story..., I was somewhat disappointed however. The album does contain some amazing tracks, Sunday Morning Call, Roll it Over and Where did it all go wrong are outstanding and some of the best stuff written by Noel so far. The more upbeat songs lacked the class of Some Might Say, Live Forever, Supersonic etc. and you can't help feeling Oasis are turning from a rock n roll band into a Noel Gallagher slow song machine. Listening to them live though. since the release of the album, I can't help feeling that some of the class is coming back. The band sound superb, and I can't wait until I see them in Bolton and Wembley this month. Should Noel go solo...we can undoubtedly expect more great...

Roll It Over Review ofStanding On The Shoulder Of Giants - Oasisby

Advantages: Some real standout Oasis 'moving their sound on' tracks Disadvantages: Too much Pub Rawk Drivel
..., 'Where...' is a nice solid track, the high point being Noel's vocals which probably lift it from B side material.
'Sunday Morning Call' is the neglected single release from the album. A great track by my reckoning, and should really have stuck in the charts for weeks and weeks. Noel again takes lead vocals, this is great stuff in complete contrast to 'Little James'...two ends of the Oasis spectrum, great song writing and musicianship and pub rawk bollocks. Speaking of which, along comes 'I Can See a Liar', which is right from the same bag as 'Put Yer Money....', shouty middle of the road rock, with the benefit of having Oasis performing it, but again a pretty forgettable track.
Now, 'Roll it Over' just shouldn't work, I should really really hate it. A completely transparent Beatles rip off, a la 'All Around the World', and it is difficult...

Advantages: At points it's Sweet and rocky . Disadvantages: Little James
...Oasis' place in history is already assured . So why not try something new . Well they have and they haven't . Musically this is a step forward with Noel recording most of the bass , lead and rhythem parts and producing . However some of the lyrics are still stuck in Be here now phase .The lead single GO Let it Out is the best example , it shows the new more technically skilled music , but some dire lyrics . Noel even had to completley rip off a poem by R . Sharpe called bag of nails . However the album does throw up some intresting things . A song like Gas Panic is hardly discernable from the Oasis of old (Except for Liams snarl , that stays the same as always .) This album also contains Liams first Oasis song writing credit . Pity . Little James is SOTSOG at it's worst , Terrible Lyrics and Clear Beatles style music . O.K the Beatles...
