Bag Of Tricks - Annihilator

Advantages: Great Thrash Album, Also Very Talented Musicians

...Annihilator are a Canadian thrash metal band, their debut album Alice In Hell was released in 1989. King Of The Kill is a great album to say the least. Annihilator really did do a great follow up album to Set The World On Fire (1993). King Of The Kill was released in 1994 however it has very late 1980's thrash sound. 'The Box' - This track has a fairly slow beat and is by no means the greatest track on the album, a very rhythm based track. 'King Of The Kill' - This track kicks off with a great thrash guitar riff which continues through the verses, the track is very based around this riff. Classic Thrash. 'Hell Is A War' - A Clean ballad style track to begin with, then the a slow thrash rhythm and the track speeds up towards the end. Then returns to the intro sytle ballad. Advantages: Sick twisted and totally guitar based

...Alice in Hell... what a title for an album. Instantly to me that says kill small children! And when you first have a listen thats almost how you feel... but not quite. The opening track Crystal Ann kinda destroys that puppy murdering feeling as it begins with the most fantastic acoustic guitar piece. The biggest surprise is the key change. It is completely unexpected but at the same time fits perfectly to make you feel all warm and snuggly until...... Alison Hell! Notice the play on the track/album title. Now this is where the shredding starts.. and my god are Annihilator the best ever. Guitar riffs are out of this world and so technical that you'll sit in amazement wondering how it was played. Disadvantages: A few Dancey tracks in places

...Alice made a huge comeback in 1986 in what was then known as metal revival year. Alice headed a wave of old and new bands such as Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi (who later turned into a soft rock act). The constrictor album was Alices first successful release since Flush The Fashion. Teenage Frankenstein is an exciting, special effect filled, fast moving rock song. Give it up is excellent pretty heavy in parts and very political too. Thrill My Gorilla is fun we can only guess what alice is talking about here. Life & Death Of The Party & Simple Disobedience are almost dance orientated relying heavily on keyboards and are two of the weaker songs on the album. The World Needs Guts is probably the heaviest number and probably the most memorable. Trick Bag, Crawlin & The American Success Story are good. He's Back The Man Behind The Mask... Read review
